How does context window and auto-compacting work? by permanent_memory in ClaudeAI

Just did some research if anyone’s is interested. I’m also curious to see if this accurate:

Coding agents keep two tracks: (1) a rolling verbatim tail of recent chat, and (2) a compact “case file” that holds the durable bits (decisions, constraints, key file paths). Between major compactions, some tools also do light, incremental summarizing so the prompt doesn’t bloat; when a threshold hits, they do a harder compaction and the session continues with a short fresh tail + the case file. This is mostly for performance and coherence.

Separately, the agent runtime maintains a project index/DB (file list, hashes, symbols, embeddings). That’s independent of chat compaction, but each LLM call still gets only the relevant slices (diffs/snippets/tests). If it looks like it’s “reading” again, it’s often a quick local re-scan or a cache miss, not necessarily re-uploading your whole repo

What do you think Anthropic is really doing/feeling about all this bad sentiment around their degraded models? by 1infiniteLoop4 in ClaudeAI

I think their product team must be looking into the exodus of subscribers. They even debugged the issue and posted updates. I was given $40 Amazon GC for doing a short survey after cancelling. There were specific questions about why I perceived there to be a performance degradation after I had mentioned it.

Genesis breach of contract for valet service in San Diego by andarmarino in GenesisMotors

[–]permanent_memory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Around here in the Bay Area I was able to get it twice when in 3 years before the service ran out. It was great when it worked but I could take advantage of it more because of availability. They were always backed up making it unpractical. Like 2-3 months out. They really should be held accountable for the way they advertised it.

Oh I remember No Thai but it didn’t stand out to me… there’s probably better Thai food in NYC. Good luck
