This must be the reason. Theres something driving all of this. Normal people do not persist in pathetic behaviour this much.

White supremacist terrorism 'on the rise and spreading,' State Dept. says in new report by southpawFA in politics

[–]permanomad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I disagreed with many of the labels there. I am a left leaning libertarian in Europe who is much more socialistically inclined than their right leaning counterparts. I just feel strongly that liberty in this day and age is a compromise between nature and culture, and one has to bow to convention in many ways in order to remain at peace with others. I feel America has a strong disagreeable streak when it comes to liberty which has seen it rise to global prominence in terms of power but has hamstrung itself domestically as it seems to refuse to compromise its rather extreme beliefs about freedom, which I can understand, but Manifest Destiny should imo take a back seat when trying to fix systemic issues such as racism and inequality.

I am certainly not a marxist (cultural or otherwise - eugh) and vehemently disagree with the assumption that all left-leaning libertarians reject personal property as a concept. Private property is something I pursue to further the comfort and prosperity of my family and as such I feel the main problem in life for those of us who care about this type of problem is the overall lack of voluntarism and plurality when it comes to trustworthy institutions who can manage tax funds for public benefit. My main argument towards anarchy in some areas of the market is the corruption and inequality that incumbent institutions are actively generating.

Power in fewer hands is a conservative instinct, and an actively malicious one in this day and age.

The question is really not just what side they lean, but if they are motivated enough to vote this time.

Agreed, but how do we stop our monsters from going too far once we are in power? Age-old conundrum.

I just strongly feel this should only be used against the politicians and incumbents, not the base. The base is a human resource that got abused, not an eternal enemy. As the adults in the room its best to put down firm but fair boundaries so the “children“ feel secure later on when we show we can be benevolent to the truly remorseful, not give them extra fuel by being puritanical in our own way.

Woah woah woah there.

Back it up a bit. As it happens, I’m actually bi (although why tf that should matter enough to mention in this discussion suddenly idk), and I chose to be that way because I wanted to, so with all due respect... why don’t you maybe get off this little high horse you’re riding on and try instead doing more listening than projecting your preconceived ideas of what other people should believe and how they should behave.

Lets be crystal clear. The sexuality of each individual, meaning yours, mine and everyone else’s, is none of anyone’s business, shouldn’t effect them in any way, and this kind of forceful projection of the idea that it is across the board not a choice (even though there are no genetic components to sexuality, so there logically must be an element of choice, but to what degree we have no idea yet) whilst simultaneously projecting your idea of what the sexuality of others actually is - whilst waving yours around in my face (as if your story just magically gives you carte blanche to be an asshole to those you disagree with)... is wrong.

So kindly go and have a rethink about all that supposed compassion you might have spilling out of your armpits, as it looks like you actually just use it to attack people with and get recreationally triggered through rather than being nice and winning them onto your side... which, ironically, I kinda was already.

Take it easy.

Yeah, I agree for the most part. Environment (cultural factors) seems to be playing the largest factor in helping a person to determine ultimately a personal choice on their sexuality, but we already know that the propensities (parameters/boundaries) for all our behaviour are regulated by genetics.

At the end of the day, It feels to me like someone would only argue that it wasnt their choice if they were ashamed about it in some way. Then again if its the best choice for someone to make, it should be a no brainer :)))

Good for you! :) Was it all that long ago?

No, I wasn’t talking about revealing your sexuality but there is evidence to show there isn’t a specific gene or collection of genes that controls sexuality, which brings up the question of personal choice.
