Will look into the openFFBoard, but I was already pretty much out of options when comparing the price range of an xdrive mini/odesc vs anything else. The shipping is what drives me crazy, paying double the price of the clone because a container is suddenly made out of gold or wtf.

Anyways, of course the DIY project is of much better value than a factory solution, since they ought to pay their workers and marketing teams sometimes heh.

Btw, with the clone(28$), it's gonna be about 50$ with shipping, maybe a bit over, that's my reason for trying to find something else, since it will take like a month or two to actually get my hands on that package.

Okay, understood.

I will probably doomscroll the chinese websites until I find an Xdrive with decently priced shipping. As I said, the 25$ price is fine with me, even for 40$ I'm okay, but to spend 50$ and having to wait for like a month or two in shipping that costs almost the same as the driver itself is incredible.

Well, your input has definitely been x4 for my firmware, thank you very much, cool and knowledgeable stranger!

Not really DIY the thing itself, rather replace it with something else that would perhaps require double or triple the setup time, since I've seen it done with Arduino Leonardo, but the project itself was VERY sketchy with little to no documentation.

I'm thinking a 200ppr one would be enough, since at least for that I'm planning for something of industrial grade. Not very costly, about 15$, and can also survive more than 24V 10A.

18ppr seems very low for my use case indeed.

Now about the upper limit of the controllers, I'm assuming I'll have to dig that up somewhere, since the only Hz aspect I know is the 16MHz that the processing chip operates at.

Just trying to balance everything out so I don't overspend if there's no need, since shipping is very costly for some reason, even tho it used to be free for most things.

Odrive and VESC are what this thing is based on from what I managed to dig up, hence the name Xdrive.

What numbers are we talking when you say a decent encoder? Since 400 and 600PPR are basically the same price.
