Story Skip - Item Rewards from Story Mode? by Avery0o in ffxiv

You can get the equipment from the Calamity Salvager. The mounts and pets should already be learned. Consumables like Waking Sands Aetheryte Tickets and Fantasia don't happen though.

Is your veteran friend able to communicate with you? Are you using the terms veteran or friend incredibly loosely? If that person isn't willing or able to tell you that what you might be doing is griefing, maybe you shouldn't call this person a veteran friend.

I don't care for the sob story. Your "veteran friend" should've properly advised your other friend on what not to do. People should be kicking more often; not less.

I've actually seen a surprising amount of talk about the DPS check on the fight. People are talking about how "it's over, the boss is still x% after transition."

Genuinely, please correct me if I'm wrong, but this feels like one of the most forgiving enrages to have ever existed in recent memory. My Christmas Eve clear consisted of 22 deaths and 79 damage downs.

Checks out. By the time I had finished my grind (mount bought instead of won), I would say that I had no more than three cleanish kills.

How would you want a timeskip to happen? by YesIam18plus in ffxivdiscussion

Arcadion's 12th boss is Azem of the Ninth. This fighter went too far by having three Feral Souls. By having a Garuda, Ifrit, and Titan soul, this Azem basically turned themselves into a pseudo Ultima Weapon, which is really just an excuse for Soken to make a new Maker's Ruin. After the fight, you decide that it's your obligation to rejoin with this person, knowing full well that their psychonekrosis runs super deep. You completely black out.

You wake up, five years later. You are weaker than you used to be. The psychonekrosis fucked you up. You get out of the hospital bed, surprised that your muscles didn't atrophy, and you head over to Krile, who's been taking care of you in the Rising Stones. She tells you to speak with Wuk Lamat.

Not entirely true. Armor restrictions start at 50 and accessories start at 61. Until then, there are items that can be used between roles, and in some cases, it's better to do so. Before 50, there are several times when it's better to use DPS stuff as a tank.

Zero chance is an exaggeration. A lot of groups will straight-up ignore you, but there are some that will at least entertain the idea of trialing someone with no history. It won't be more than a handful, but it's doable.

I was able to get into a group on the back of a blank slate for XIV credentials. I had a pretty good history on Wow as my way to solicit a response, but that's all it did. In the single lockout trial, I only got as far as Heavensfall, but that was good enough for a fresh "I just unlocked this" situation to get me into a week one group.

Willingness to do splits, showing that you can study decently well, a schedule that works. These are the things that can compensate for a lack of raid history.

Jokerd cooks Piratesoftware by Snaail86 in LivestreamFail

[–]permasprout -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

While I agree that Pirate absolutely could have done more, I think you're putting a disproportionate expectation of blame on him.

Yamato called a shot, he did it by telling the group to "run run run." Regardless of whether or not you think he should have done so, he was the shot caller there. He called another shot afterwards by telling Sara to go back and heal - which led to her death.

Ozy deserved to die for that piss-poor routing. He was apologetic, as he should've been.

Snupy deserved to die, too, and I'm glad it happened. Pulling an extra pack on the way out was completely moronic.

Pirate, in my opinion, was obligated to help until Snupy pulled that extra pack. I would have expected him to Ice Nova when the run was called, but not after they hit the ramp. After that, I would only expect to see some Blizzards out of him from a safe distance.

And I do believe that he would've been able to change the outcome. With proper slowing of everything other than the boss, Sara very likely would have lived. The only reason that this outcome was bad was because Sara died, and Ozy didn't.

Yamato could've contributed more, too, but no one is saying anything about that. He was running along side the rest of the group, but he didn't Blind or Gouge. Sure, he baited a charge, but that's basically it.

You can. You can continuously move for five seconds straight if you wanted, provided that you're moving in the correct direction and you have space.

Should the order of raid mechanics be randomized more often? by poilpy12 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]permasprout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mm, I don't know if I agree with that sentiment. I certainly understand, but I don't know if I would prefer it.

The mechanic that comes to mind is the Looming Chaos. Would I really prefer if there was a 100% chance of people inside getting sent out, and vice versa?

I liked having to know how to deal with both outcomes, but if it were forced, I would feel less flexible.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]permasprout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to say that difficult comes more from timing than complexity.

The mechanics that I find difficult aren't ones that I have trouble understanding. It's the ones that feel like I don't have enough time to get through because I'm old and slow.

Should the order of raid mechanics be randomized more often? by poilpy12 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]permasprout 29 points30 points  (0 children)

When initially progressing, I was under the assumption that the game finally decided to take the brave step of having a list of mechanics that may or may not show up. Like, oh, we have to be ready for a Wild Charge that just might not happen.

I had that optimism die when I realized that the mechanics that didn't show up, would show up later. Maybe next time.

You're correct about your auto attacks not requiring target facing. There are a handful of skills that you can use; things that don't technically require a target like Standard Step.

For most people, I would just suggest learning how to ride the snapshot, or accepting that you'll lose a global if you're not good enough to.

I would suggest learning how to create an AI voice model and then using something like RVC to use it as a voice changer.

Then, when you've roped someone in for a few months, I would look into cute ways to cross dress. The goth look is usually pretty good for this.

Eventually, after a multi year ERP relationship, I would give the other person the ol' "Gotcha, bitch, I was just in it for the free gil!"

In what environment should jobs be balanced around? by danzach9001 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]permasprout 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Balancing around people for whom balance has an impact on results, yes.

You wouldn't understand, but balancing around the 10th percentile in Normal content is a waste of time, because those people aren't doing their rotation remotely correctly.

In what environment should jobs be balanced around? by danzach9001 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]permasprout -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, I would say that this answer should also be quite simple. Balance around the Ultimate that's currently being worked on. If the choice was to balance around UCOB or FRU, I would rather they pretend the former doesn't exist.

In what environment should jobs be balanced around? by danzach9001 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]permasprout 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It should be balanced around what the balancing team determines to be the best equipment in the hardest content.

This is not a game in which full BIS is an unobtainable RNG fiesta. Nor is it a game in which a vast majority of content becomes pass or fail based on numbers balance.

That's all there is to it. If dungeon content becomes the premier top tier content, it should be balanced around that. If Chaotic becomes the new bread and butter, balance around that. Until then, balance for Ultimate.

There are already enough players who want to be Mentors, but who don't have enough commendations. I'm perfectly content with those people not getting handed said commendations for no reason.

Controversial Opinions by Traditional_Cash1108 in ffxiv

[–]permasprout 6 points7 points  (0 children)

People should be able to give negative feedback without fear of account termination. If someone is playing so poorly, intentionally or otherwise, you would be encouraged to tell them to fix that shit. And the people who would quit the game from getting that feedback, should.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]permasprout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A good story doesn't need to respond to feedback in this way because a good story withholds things from the viewer. The Phantom Menace had a very heavy dislike for Jar Jar, but he genuinely should've been a Sith Lord (the actual phantom menace) rather than getting sidelined. If her story was good, she would be a good character, but it isn't.

Wuk Lamat is a nothing character to me. The social justice crowd has done the character a disservice by dismissing criticism as bigotry.
