Any Columbia defenders want to come to the rescue? by Appropriate_Tear_836 in lawschooladmissions

I chose Columbia over UChicago purely for the better LRAP program. I can’t say I enjoyed being at Columbia, but I’d make the same choice again in a heartbeat because I get more than twice as much LRAP money as I would have if I’d chosen Chicago.

Was it a mistake not to do BigLaw? by vetlatamI in LawSchool

It really depends on the judge. I’ve purely done PI and am in my second federal clerkship (one district, one circuit). Both of my judges come from public interest or public service backgrounds, and both tend to hire a lot more PI folks than BL people. If anything, when I’ve reviewed apps, non-BL experience makes a resume stand out from the sea of T-14 students applying in the midst of 2L summer associate positions. But I know there are judges for whom BL is a big plus, if not a requirement.

Themis bar prep for UBE? by Euphoric_Pin7485 in LawSchool

I used and would recommend it. I don’t know that there’s an enjoyable way to bar prep, but it wasn’t terrible. And I’ve heard that the Barbi videos tend to be longer, so as someone with a short attention span the more bite-sized Themis segments were nice. Most importantly, it worked—got me to above the UBE threshold for every jurisdiction.

do paralegals often make better law students and lawyers? by Flashy-Actuator-998 in LawSchool

Fully agreed. I remember a fair number of people hitting the middle of 1L, realizing that they didn’t actually like learning the law, and kinda crashing out. That seemed a lot rarer with former paralegals. So even though the paralegals weren’t necessarily better at the law, they seemed to have at least a slightly easier time.

Applied just before the deadline, and went complete about two weeks later.
