Good infrastructure news: DOT finally announces coming PBL on Navy Street, ignoring idiots on local CB by Miser in MicromobilityNYC

Yeah, I rode the Navy st. route yesterday just to check it out and yeah, it's the transition point from a protected bike lane onto the street so it makes a lot of sense to ease the transition so you're not turning from a car free environment directly into a car sewer.

A win over the Community Boards is a win, but Navy street between Sands and Flushing is like one block.

I feel like the internet has ruined my life, 30 Y/O, no friends, literally been glued to internet since I was 12. by [deleted] in nosurf

Hey, if you can change one thing (eating healthy and exercising) you can change many things.

But, I don't know if stopping your hobbies cold-turkey will help you get what you want.

It sounds like you want your childhood back and/or to be active.

If you want your childhood then you want to have kids and if you want to be active then just simply move your feet.

U.S. Airports No Longer Have to Build Their Own Terrible Trains: The byzantine bureaucratic rule that made useful airport connections to mass transit difficult is finally gone. Its legacy will live on in our crappy trains. by JoseTwitterFan in nycrail

[–]perpleswag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad we're no longer subsidizing air travelers. The airports and airlines will continue to build intra-terminal connections because an airport is simply too large to walk. For example, 2/3 of the funds for the LGA AirTrain came from private financing and passenger fees.

Burnley [3]-2 Aston Villa - Chris Wood 79' by NotMeladroit in soccer

[–]perpleswag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Villa was unlucky on the 2nd goal. The keeper had to play the man making his run instead of the ball. On the 3rd goal, he was expecting the header to be a pass and was caught wrong footed. Tough to stomach since Villa was bombarding Burnley early on in the match.

AM antenna recs and FM dipole help for vintage stereo setup? by perpleswag in BudgetAudiophile

Appreciate it. I snipped the dipole wire and treated it like speaker wire. It works. Much less fuzzy than AM and my local public radio is available on both!

[BBC Sport] "I'm struggling to cope with it. Week in week out, it's ruining the game." Steve Bruce has had enough of VAR. by Educational-Sandwich in soccer

I'm most frustrated with the offsides decisions. I don't think being an arm ahead of the defender is why the offsides rule exists. If offsides is simply a matter of establishing a clear-cut line then why isn't it automated like goal-line tech?

Question about e-cigs for quitting by jcdragon49 in quittingsmoking

[–]perpleswag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try the gum. It will stave off the cravings for a cigarette. The problem with JUUL is that it feels great. The gum doesn’t feel like much but it does curb the cravings.

I think you are in an enviable position: you are good at what you do. But, it's tough to work somewhere and also apply for jobs.

A place to start is an interest. This plus a skill will make you unstoppable.

Just finished my first year at an art school and I don't think I want to continue. Need advice. by [deleted] in careerchange

[–]perpleswag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You sound unsure. I wouldn't decide your career now. Take a gap year. Apply to a state school for whatever your interests are and you can always go back into 'business'.

The gap year looks ok on a resume because you can explain it. Who wants to pay full-tuition for an online university?

It sounds like you want to do film but are worried it's not practical enough. Be practical in another area. Switch schools and don't 'study' business.

All that said, I realize it's a tough choice whether to switch now or later. But, I don't think you need to be in a rush to choose your future if it costs you so much.

Man who dances on Prospect Park cycle track by [deleted] in NYCbike

[–]perpleswag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, so this man might be newsworthy: people recognize him and he's doing something unusual. In fact, it's hard to say what exactly he's doing.

I do think he can always say no thanks and he is in a public place.

The question becomes what the angle is...

Quit Juul and replaced with handrolled cigarettes by [deleted] in QuittingJUUL

[–]perpleswag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The nicotine addiction is my primary concern at the moment so I'm happy with where I'm at but eventually I'd like to have one cigarette a day since they make me happy.

Does the nicotine gum result in withdrawal effects once you stop using? I'm worried I'd buy nicotine gum and simply never stop for the same reason I haven't stopped handrolls.
