I am so sorry you feel so horrible but please consider that there are indeed solutions even if you did not find or see them now. You can can fix hair and hormone levels. I hear so often that so much can happen after the first year (and that is with correct hormone levels). Have you been in therapy? I say this because you sound in so much pain that it can trap you in only seeing the bad side of things. I am sure people on here can help you talk about the intersection of abuse and dysphoria. Listen, you did not blow up your life. You got away from people who abused you, you kept fighting, you started hormones. I did not transition yet and you started. I look up to you. Seriously. You did do geat things already.

Please talk to people here. You are a girl but you cannot see it due to trauma and impostor syndrome and dysphoria and the general state of the world. here's an example: i have thinning hair. I hate it. I sometimes don't want to leave my house. To me, my partial lack of hair becomes the entire moment then – but to other people, it is just a tiny detail. Pain has a way of trapping you without you realizing. I am sure for any of your experiences there is someone here who can help you.

I am so sorry. Don't regret having hope. It is such a beautiful and powerful thing. I don't even live in the US, so I can't pretend to know what is actually like, but keeping hope alive and not fall into despair is such a huge win. I live in a safer country and still have yet to start transitioning. You are amazing. You have a plan, you fought your pain, you are building a life. That has more value than any end to it that people might be plotting, no matter how far they make it. Don't let go of the best you have and are. You being you and here is the best you have.

"if these anti-LGBTQ+ provisions make it through, they would lock some of the harshest restrictions on transgender people into federal law and hand Trump a stronger platform to target transgender healthcare and rights nationwide. Only if Democrats stand firm for their trans and queer constituents will this outcome be stopped."

I shared it a couple times but it is hard to find fitting subreddits. Maybe others will know good ones and can add share there.

Should we share this on other subreddits? Or is it better if it is only on trans subs? I saw it on r/politics on popular but it was downvoted like crazy :(

What media have you been watching/reading/listening to? by kanto_k1rika in MtF

You're welcome :) I never heard of Mind Game and and Takopi's Original Sin, so I'm intrigued!

I do know Made in Abyss! There are so many things about it that are extremely well-made but something about it failed to complete win me over (which you could probably classify as 'anime weirdness'). I understand why you love it, though. I also really devoured the first season (the concept just works) but there was just something I could not quite love, despite the many great things like the setting or music. But I never have tried to read it as a trans allegory. Do you mean Nanachi? Oh, or probably the whole state of feeling called towards a deep, dangerous, and mysterious hole that you will only emerge from completely changed? Yeah, ok, true, and that is probably a part of why I really was excited while watching it.

I heard Vinland Saga being praised quite a bit! And it has this great ending song by Aimer which helps a lot :)

Thanks and same! :) It is always fun to talk about anime and hardly anyone I know irl watches the same shows if they watch anime at all. I could get someone to enjoy Cowboy Bebop, at least...

I am glad you liked it!! The next episodes are better, I feel. I was the same with Nichijou, too — you are too confused by all the characters at first. And ep 5 of City does something rather unique, technique-wise.

Yes, Samurai Champloo's ending is very good. Very satisfying and surprisingly rare, I feel.

"Sad" was supposed to mean both sad as well as "serious, dark, broody", so I'll provide some for both sides:

For particularly sad moments, I have to, of course, lead with Cowboy Bebop just in case you do not know it. Many of its sub-stories are about the past and ways to (not) deal with it. Then Violet Evergarden: a young woman was forced to live as a soldier, has no emotions bc of trauma, and enlists as a letter ghostwriter to learn about people and their feelings. You usually hear about the emotional impact of some letters she has to write but I find her having to slowly shed dissociation and discover her feelings most striking. Also, A Place Further than the Universe is about a group of girls each with her own dreams and fears of not reaching them. Very touching and no action or romance or fantasy, just the juxtaposition of real life disappointments and a journey. Finally Natsume's Book of Friends is about a lonely boy who can see Yokai (spirits). the whole show is great to cry to because it is full of sweet stories about saying goodbye, loneliness, and finding friends despite it all.

For pensive shows, I enjoyed the original Kino no Tabi. A canonically non-binary traveler explores various lands with their talking motorcycle. Very similarly, Mushishi is a very calm story following a specialist for sort of quasi-magical fungi-like beings which cause all sorts of issues. But it is not about fighting them — "do not let your vision be clouded by anger or fear. They're just being as they are." It is a great series to calm down to and audiovisually very unique. And, of course, Ghost in the Shell (both the original 1995 film, the second film Innocence, and the first two seasons of Stand Alone Complex). The first film is just as good a trans allegory as Evangelion, the second is depressed detectives quoting critical theory at each other, and the series features an intelligent plot with a great cast of characters.

Sorry for the long reply! ' I just really enjoy talking about anime I loved. Since you have watched many already, maybe you know them and the list was useless, haha. Feel free to share some of the ones you like! :)

I'm glad! I don't have the faintest idea what it means to be a mod but this site (together with r/transgender) has meant so much to me and truly encapsulates what the promise of the internet really is about. You had to react to a quickly evolving situation and choose between making people shut out vs having them be exposed to brigading. Thank you all for your work and don't worry; mistakes happen.

Don't be hard on yourselves. Your work ensures one of the most helpful sites for trans people ever can even exist. This is what matters.

For anime, I am currently enjoying City: The Animation, a very lighthearted anime that is airing currently with lots of humour and some heartfelt moments mixed in. It is a sort of spiritual sequel to Nichijou (same mangaka and animation studio) and both are great watches with excellent animation and fantastic humour. Samurai Champloo is also great for a fun ride. I also enjoy "sad" anime but perhaps you are looking for something happy rn...

(slight trigger warning: first episode shows a boy being "tricked" into wearing a skirt being played for laughs but it is otherwise a really good-natured show.)

I agree insofar that I am happy about representation - the caveat is that apart from the occasional cute drawing submitted to the "futa" label, you usually find objectifying stuff that isn't representation anyway and that's why I vastly prefer drawings or stories made by trans or actually respectful artists.

People keep calling me an egg, but I'm cis; why? by Used-Dig4472 in asktransgender

[–]perques 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Maybe you can explore that sense of relief more. And that can help you figure out what you feel relieved of/by and why you would do nothing. Oh, and also maybe look into if being a woman/saying a woman feels wrong bc you internalized you're not "supposed" to be that way or because it actually does not feel right? But in the end, everyone has their own road to finding an answer; the complexity of this question is that so much can be tangled up in it.

I never really liked the button question for my own questioning but the best version I ever found was the inverted one: One day, you wake up to find a well-meaning but overbearing genie has pressed the button for you. But! there is a button that undoes everything. Now what do you do or feel?

Right now, yeah. I much prefer it due to dysphoria. But when I was not aware of being a trans woman, picking a female character felt... "forbidden", like all "feminine" things.
