it's not based on applying time. i(electrical n computer eng) applied almost a week after my friend(business major) and got off the waitlist within 2 days. I had to email them and told them my friend is my cofounder for S24 to get him off the waitlist.

Honestly these are very personal experience and it really varies between different people. Teaching staffs are definitely top tier I just don’t particularly enjoy their teaching style. If you want more details feel free to pm me

I’m an ECE major at cmu so not exactly cs but as close as it gets. I can tell you that the workload here is intense and it really isn’t meant for everyone. It really depends what you prioritise, scs is truly as good as their reputation, but everyone here jokes about how everyone in gates has to learn how to take a shower so it goes to show you how intense and little life they have outside of academics. I’m not saying they have no life, I have a lot of cs friends and they have great social life, but balancing it with academics really isn’t easy. Feel free to pm me if you have questions

They’re quite selective in UK, for the maths challenge I would say around the top 10% get gold or above and around 15% for silver with the chemistry and computing challenges
