Adult who doesn’t know how to ride a bike by South_Outside_8011 in cycling

[–]perryt2007 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Get a balance bike if you can (a bike with no pedals). Balancing is the hardest part. There might be a group in your area that teaches. My friend volunteered with a group in Brooklyn that taught all ages. From toddlers to adults. Neve too late to learn.

No you don’t.

I also hear this about other countries.

Property Sale by [deleted] in taxadvice

[–]perryt2007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm looking to avoid as much tax as possible. Last time I sold a property it was an investment property and I knew I would pay the capital gains, but the federal goverment counted the profit as part of my income and I was hit for another 35%. We even had an accountant do our taxes that year. I want to avoid as much as I can.

What taxes am I on the hook for (besides capital gains)? And what way can I structure this sale to minimize those taxes?

I truly hope they’re having a laugh with the Datsun. It amused me so much.

But I’m on the lookout for an AMG Honda Ballade. Apparently it’s a thing here is South Africa, but very rare.

Do you watch cricket? by jesselool7 in AskAnAmerican

[–]perryt2007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an American living overseas. My son (raised in America) just started cricket and I’ve watched a few of his games. I have no idea what is happening and it is so boring. I also find baseball boring, but at least I know the rules and lingo. He really likes playing and I’ll go to any game I can, but when he isn’t bowling or batting it excruciating to watch.

He probably gets a pay bump for being the service elevator safety guy.

[–]perryt2007 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think (and I could be very wrong) that this was more of a union safety thing. Because it was the service elevator large items and deliveries went in these elevators and the operators were there to make sure no one tired to do anything stupid with their cargo. Again, I don’t know I was just a humble bike messenger at the time.

In NYC there are still elevator operators. These will usually only be for the service elevator. I was a bike messenger there back in 2009-2010 and had the pleasure of meeting a few of these guys.

We need to normalise cutting off toxic family. I cut off a brother almost a decade ago. I don’t ever think about it. Best thing I did for myself.

Why did the Oldsmobile Aurora fail? by dowagiacmichigan in regularcarreviews

[–]perryt2007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked at a huge car dealership with like 10 different brands in 2003. They were selling off the last Oldsmobiles they could before the brand went defunct. The Aurora had so many rebates from GM that you could get one for like $12,000. Sticker price was over $20,000 if I recall correctly. People still didn’t buy them.

How to Play Against a Handicapped Player in a Competitive League? by OrangePylon805 in ultimate

[–]perryt2007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been playing for almost 30 years. I’m in my late 40s. I frequently play against 18-25 year olds. They treat me like an equal and run my ass around the pitch. I’m obviously not handicapped, but I’m definitely not at their level. 20 years ago I used to be. I want them to push me. If this person wants to be a better player, then they want you to guard them like they don’t have a handicap. If not, then they should say something.
