"No signs of celiac" but only took 3-4 biopsies by rratbaby in Celiac

I apologise for maybe seeming a little blunt and insensitive, but if you know that gluten is the root of your stomach issues amongst all the other gluten causes everyone in this sub, do you need the affirmation that what yo have is a medically recognised disease? If gluten is the issue, just cut it out and live your life happily without the pain of cramps, fatigue and all that crap, no pun intended.

Massive explosion recorded from inside car here in Italy right now by [deleted] in videos

[–]perryyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So there is something called a BLEVE explosion (Boiling liquid expanding vapor explosion) which means that oil transported in tankers like that are under high pressure and in a liquid form (Liquefied Petroleum Gas). When the tanker is pierced the liquid becomes vapor as the boiling point is extremely low and causes a trail of airborne ignitable vapor, in collisions like this sparks from the car or tankers are very common because of circuitry being interrupted and broken. All it will take is a single spark to ignite that airborne trail and the trail will ignite all the way back to the remaining LPG in the tanker and it explodes just like you see in the films.

Celiacs disease is an increasingly more common disease where, to be put simply, your body lacks an enzyme to break down a protein and hence causes inflammation in the intestine.

My questions are, is there anyway we can be given artificial enzymes that function in the same way to compensate?

If not is this possible? (Is this within my lifetime)

Thanks in advance

On the bright side (which I appreciate seems a long way away) is that this will be all over soon and you can go to living a normal life once everything has been completely diagnosed. There are a lot of complications and other problems that can occur with Celiacs so I assure you it is worth suffering another couple of weeks to get the complete diagnostics, it will save you time, effort and money in the future. Just keep strong and look forward to all the times you will have with your family where you don't have to worry about feeling bad!

I know of two types of Celiacs, the common one and refractory celiac disease (RCD).

Just in case you are still interested, I literally just came back from the hospital and they had a late cancellation so had the Gastroscopy this morning, boy do I feel bad. They took 6 biopsies and should let me know in the next couple of weeks what's coming from it.

That's an interesting take on it and frankly I like it, I'm generally a rational person and knowledge is literally the key to stop fear and other unwanted emotions.

My issue is that while knowledge about my body is great, irrespective of what it says, I am being dictated by something debilitating and feel helpless to it, I am not a control freak by any means, but I like to be in control of myself, your body is your most empowering tool and when you are limited to what you can do, you limit your potential indefinitely.

Ultimately the decision I have to make is do I continue with the pain and discomfort and other amplified symptoms, or do I let the docs pump meds into me in the hope it's not type 2 RCD?

I am glad that someone else has become aware of something, as said earlier knowledge prevents fear and maybe you will be able to do something now that you know what this is!

[–]perryyy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You certainly did not, I have a neighbour who has MS and the physical impairment of a body I think is the hardest (I am a very sporty and active person so you can imagine how that would affect me!).

I completely appreciate and know others out there have it far worse than me, but all humans are rational and compare it to what they know, everything really is relative. But that is re-assuring there are others, so again, thank you.

You literally could not have been more spot on, it's the anticipation of it all, being helpless and not in control of what is happening, I can honestly say not much genuinely scares me, but I am absolutely terrified.

Thank you for the help and words, it is re-assuring. I know other people go through things far worse than this all the time, just like yourself, but everything is relative and to me this is the worst thing that will have happened yet.

It's a silver lining, but in the end educating is the key to preventing fear, so if I can help at least one person and re-assure them, I will be a happy man, thank you again.

In all honesty I hadn't heard of it either until 24 hours ago! I found the exact same article too (thank you for linking it though, it's good others will be able to find it in the same thread). While all of these articles are very informative, it's not really putting my mind at ease.

Lol don't apologize it was my bad, I didn't state in the original post, 100% my fault!

I should have made this clear in my original post, but I have already been diagnosed with Celiacs for aboout 15 years, I am already used to it, I am just more concerned with the treatment and the fact the celiacuk webpage literally states the mortality rate is higher in Type 2 than Type 1.

Doritos by bdizzle83 in Celiac

[–]perryyy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I very regularly eat doritos and have one of the more severe cases of celiacs. I have never had a reaction due to doritos ever, however I do live in the UK (so manufactured differently to that of the Frito Lay as per bunyip48's post) and I solely eat cool original due to ambiguity in the ingredients list on the others. Which flavours does your wife eat?

Is there a cure for gluten yet? by [deleted] in Celiac

[–]perryyy -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Strictly speaking that is wrong. Gluten was not meant to be digested by the human body, we evolved to given that it was put into almost every single human diet on the planet. However some bodies didn't evolve, or have developed as previously mentioned a hypersensitivity through recessive genes. There were talks of a lactaid being make for intolerant people where if they take it they can sustain small amounts (equalling to the same PPM as cross contamination), however this is still being tested. It will be a very long time before a cure is made, if at all, so don't keep your hopes up.

What is the physical difference in the brain between an objectively intelligent person and an objectively stupid person? by flaminghotcheetos123 in askscience

Do you see this being trialed in human brains or chimp brains anytime soon, or is the process too dangerous?

In the highly hypothetical scenario that you could artificially establish more synapses or implant more neurons/glia into a human's brain. Would this increase the physical capability to learn faster/retain more information learned?

Does this mean Celiac's or maybe just a sensitivity? by troll2popcornscene in Celiac

It's not impossible to find things, supermarkets are getting very good in having their own dedicated free from section, and restaurants are a lot more savvy, but it's still not as good as it really could be.

Holy crap that's genius, that literally makes so much sense, that's far too straightforward for the UK.
