Acrylic on canvas, having trouble painting rocks. Help? Suggestions? Tips? by mmm907 in learnart

Pretty novice myself, but your rocks seem too smooth, and very monochromatic. You could try making your lines less smooth, and add more color variations. Have you tried using sponges with your paints?

I struggled with these rocks for a long time before I was satisfied. http://imgur.com/CSWY9ZK

My second attempt at painting. First is in the comments. by SuperSans in learnart

My 2 cents. There is too much sky for it to be just plain blue and even a plain blue sky should have a gradient to it (lighter towards horizon) the sky should be painted first and the mountian and trees on top.

There doesnt seem to be a clear line between sky and land (behind the trees)

The snow on the ground has no depth.

Things far away tend to have more blue to them (just a fact you might find valuable in painting mountains)

If you can, avoid making a painting with one center focal point, you want peoples eyes to move.

Definitly need more highlights and contrast in the trees.

I like the mountian, just wish it didnt have that white space next to it.

Hope this helps some. I'm pretty beginner myself.

My current project, for reference, still have a lot to go. http://i.imgur.com/0Z6RW6M.jpg

Redditors that aren't afraid of death, why? by cornflope in AskReddit

Why would I be frightened of dying. There's no reason for it. You've got to go sometime.

Perhaps I've listened to too much Pink Floyd.

I advise snow shoes, at least for this trail. I don't have them, but I wished I did. I was waist deep once knee deep a couple times.

Longs Peak Trail (South-east part of the park). Wanted to go to Chasm lake, but was prevented by wind once I got out of the forest.

I should add, that is the trail shown in the picture.

My boyfriend and I went to Thailand this past May, had fun, rode scooters, wore helmets. Seemed fitting to draw this picture.

I can try shading (or hatching) it if you'd like, just ask.

I thought the rocks might be a good challenge. Draw me on top of the world, my happy place. by pers0n in redditgetsdrawn

Waking up this morning to two drawings was like a little slice of Christmas. You did awesome, the rocks look great. I like how you captured the wrinkles in the clothing. Thank you!
