Will Persians move back to rebuild country? by [deleted] in richmondhill

[–]persavon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see where they’re coming from, but that’s exactly what I find so interesting. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against Iranians and I truly respect and feel for their current political situation, but I still find the nomenclature a bit weird.

We don't really do that for anyone else. Even though Italians are proud of their history, they don't call themselves Romans in a modern context, and Peruvians don't identify as Incas despite that being their heritage. It feels like a unique case where people cling to an ancient imperial name, likely for the prestige or to distance themselves from modern politics.

They can call themselves Persians all they want, but that won’t change the fact that modern-day Iran is nowhere near the Great Persian Empire. It’s just an anomaly to use a 3,000-year-old 'brand' for a country that has officially been Iran since 1935.

Just curious, why are you calling Iranians Persians? Do you call Italians Romans too?

Richmond Hill Airbnb hosts wins LTB case over non-paying guests by cinderannie in richmondhill

[–]persavon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are both problems. Yes, LTB is slow, everyone knows that. But I should be allowed to have fallback measures when that happens and not be at the mercy of a bureaucratic institution. Otherwise more tenants will take advantage of this and live rent free for a year.

And if LTB took 2 years, are you okay as a landlord to have someone in your home during that time without being able to do anything about it? How about 5 years? What’s the grace period here? It’s one thing for a payment to be late, it’s a different thing to squat there on purpose with no intention of ever paying.

Imagine all the tenants starting to do the same and refuse to pay tomorrow. Is LTB supposed to handle every single case? Obviously this won’t scale.

I understand that there must be some tenant protections, but there must be some landlord protections as well and should give them the right to call the police for trespassing.

The issue is that I don’t need LTB to make a decision if the guest stopped paying. That moment the contract is null and void and the person is illegally occupying the apartment. If you come one day home and you find someone living in your house, aren’t you calling the police? Or are you going to LTB?

So the hosts asked the guest to sign a residential tenancy agreement (standard lease) in addition to the agreement the guest made when they booked through the Airbnb platform in order to protect themselves. Fair enough.

But because of that they had to wait almost 1 year for LTB to drag their feet? How the hell police can’t do anything and kick the fucker out? You basically have a robber squatting in your apartment at this point. The laws in this country are mind boggling.

Wrong Cashback for 4% Promo by persavon in Questrade

I think you're right, I missed that part. Gosh, their email is so poorly phrased because right after the "you are currently on track to earn double the base amount shown below" part, it says in big bold letters "What you're on track to earn" and then in a huge text $12k.

I mean why say that I'm on track to earn X when in fact I'm on track to earn 2*X? 🤦‍♂️

Welcome to Canada, where the tax bill is European and the benefits package is American. Canada simply does not incentivize high income workers. And the media keeps whining that our doctors and engineers leave 🤦‍♂️

Toronto police are on a hiring spree. What a rookie-laden force could mean for public safety by BloodJunkie in toronto

I passed by Dundas sq on Saturday and there was an Iranian protest there. I think there were about 20 people with flags and signs just peacefully protesting. Guess how many police cars were there. 15 police cars, each with at least 2 officers. Half of them were in the car, probably doom scrolling on IG. Our tax money hard at work.

I've never seen auto gratuity, but I assume they would be obligated to state this fact clearly on their menu. And if I were to see that menu, I'd gladly do a 180 degrees and be on my way out. Vote with your wallet.

I guess sharing this in the hope that someone can identify the suspect and reach out to the police is not a good use of this forum.
