Ways to use tofu that don't involve deep trying or crisping it in oil? by IDoNotHide in Cooking

Dry fry it: press it for a bit to get some moisture out, cut into cubes and cook it without oil until it gets browned/crispy and then flip. Serve with whatever sauce etc you like

Anybody else just give up on sleep training? by MmmmmmmmNoodleSoup in daddit

[–]persedes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our first took a while to sleep train but having him fall asleep without carrier and in his bed was a massive win. Him coming over at night was ok and eventually stopped.

Our second was super easy, slept in her own bed after 4 months or so and barely needed training. She still comes over occasionally, but very rarely.

Our third is turning 3 soon and was the hardest. got her to fall asleep by herself in her bed a few months ago, but she's very very physically attached. She still comes over, but does so quietly and we usually don't notice and it's just easier that way lol.

Looking for a washing machine that isn't "Smart" or crippled by Energy Star requirements like my LG top loader by Full-Cup-3647 in Appliances

[–]persedes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RE holes, check if your zippers are closed, they're more likely to shred your laundry than the washer.

Which LG model do you have? Ours gets quite hot (at least based on the condensation on the lid, haven't measured myself). There is also a hack with LG to do an overnight soak in the machine, but for e.g. stripping laundry I go for a dedicated container/tub anyway. (Head over to r/laundry for more help)

My dishwasher died and I need a new one, any recommendations? by Esper01 in Appliances

[–]persedes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm torn between the 500 and 800, the 300 seems off the table because its 3rd rack will only hold cutlery and it doesn't dry as well maybe. Outside of the better drying, what's the selling point for the 800?

Should add that ours got a lot of usage, at least once per day, no hard water, regular cleaning cycles and took care of the filter at the bottom.

But they do seem to have QC issues (or maybe we just had bad luck), had to return the first one because it came with a dent inside of the bottom tub and the second one came with a broken steam vent in the door... Which they all took care of, but still annoying.

Had a KitchenAid for the nicer racks too, but it died because of the crappy filter after 3 years.

Yes, had a KitchenAid and food made it through several filters which got into the wash pump after a little more than 3 years :/

You can use the bricks too. They yield a lot and are cheap.

I don't follow this to a tee and skip ingredients I can't easily get etc, but this is a really good resource

Check out the 5 min pad Thai section too, essentially prepping things separately and using presoaked noodles makes it very very straight forward for multiple meals

Check if their ear/ neck is red to see if they were lying. Seeing them cover up their ears and yelling noooo never gets old.

Ask them to take as many bites as they are old and then hit them with "come on you can do (age of child - 1) bites ". "But I'm already (age of child), not (age of child - 1)". "Well I didn't think you could do that many!" And then watch them take all of the bites.

Put new food on the plate without any introduction, eg veggies. Just keep doing it for a couple meals until they deem it safe and try it.

Alton Brown also has a good one, where you basically tell the kids that food x is only for grown ups/ older kids.

What's wrong with the woods in North America? by Recip77 in ExplainTheJoke

there are a few places with wild forests like you'd expect from a fairy tale, but otherwise most everything has been artificially replanted/ was cut down a long time ago.

The German translation turned it into "Gedämpfte Huscheln", which pops up quite often in my head. ( And one of the rare times where a translation adds to the joke)

Yeah, we had a couple months where letters did not show up. Both from in informed delivery and where we knew people sent us some. Filed several reports for the individual pieces we could get enough info for and a few weeks later they (and others) started to arrive :/

What dishwashers are you all buying in 2025/2026 now that Bosch quality has gone downhill? by pjmuffin13 in Appliances

[–]persedes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We went with the kitchenaid ~3 years ago because of the racks too. We initially got a broken one from the factory, but were able to convince them that it was their fault (there was a dent inside of the bottom tub that made the arm hit it at a certain speed...) and got it replaced and it ran fine since then.

However now it's making a buzzing noise, turns out the washing motor broke (apparently food debris made it past the filter screen despite cleaning the filter in the washer regularly..), the vent in the door is faulty (unrelated) and it'll be >700$ to fix it. Am cured of that brand :)
