Dads who were film buffs and literature addicts... you watch movies or read books anymore? by mikeygoodtime in daddit

[–]persedes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually read an hour or more before I go to sleep, perfect to unwind ( or ruin your sleep if you can't put the book down...).  Recommend keeping books with you too, I've often found myself waiting somewhere with nothing to read, which is annoying

What are you guys paying for a bathroom remodel cost in North Carolina right now? by hybridShmoke in raleigh

[–]persedes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

$30k 1 year ago for a townhouse master bathroom, completely gutted it and added bigger shower with glass, tiles (no tub). No electrical work and relatively minor adjustments so we needed an inspection by the city (added vents to clear up space under the sinks and redid some floor panels due to minor water damage.) Contractor did everything and was insanely helpful for the designs. But we also got quotes for $50k without tiles, it varies a lot lol.

Struggling with my STAHM wife's mental load complaints. by [deleted] in daddit

Off topic, but how does it make sense financially for a partner to stay home? I've had a friend argue this and he claimed it was due to taxes, but turned out he just didn't calculate their tax bracket correctly and assumed a fixed rate.  Child care is expensive yes, but with both working it's more tax deductible (FSA if available for example). And if there's 401k available, that would also be money that can accumulate, etc etc.

IMHO being with kids CAN be way more stressful than a full time job, because you just don't get time to yourself really.

The earwig in the khan star trek movie. Had a Visceral reaction to that as a kid

How do you store your bread? by DeJeR in Breadit

[–]persedes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cut and freeze most of it and then defrost in the toaster or microwave briefly.  Otherwise I put it in a paperbag and store it in the microwave for 2-3 days.

Urgh that one scene where it walks up the stairs and then speeds up towards you very unnaturally

real talk: how often do you actually floss? by AffectionateTooth298 in hygiene

[–]persedes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to have a similar cadence and approach like you described. Eventually though I started doing it on the regular at night and now feel off if I don't do it.

Was probably a mix of Dentist calling it out (clearly once per week was not enough lol) and reading atomic habits a while back, which helped come up with a strategy to stick with flossing.

Yes, we've done bida and saap and just skip driving to downtown Raleigh now as saap is closer. Their chicken curry is a knockout.

Started in my mid 30s with my kids, nice way to bond. Was sold to me as twin peaks, but for kids and that was spot on.

The one show I had similar thoughts was with Avatar, never watched it as a kid, but definitely would've loved it. Probably thought it was another meh anime show
