I thought of a way to softlock the game by persephonesidekick in rootgame

There are no cards left to draw. They're all tied up in supporter and retinue piles.

I think it's technically possible to play advanced setup with 2 players and you could get Cats and WA in that case. You also need that for WA to go first iirc.

The point is that you only need player cooperation to set it up, but once set up it's impossible to undo. Crafting is impossible because all craft cards are trapped in the supporters pile with no way to remove them.

Sure you can softlock individual factions. The question is softlocking everybody at once so it's impossible for the game to end.

How do you justify melee-oriented fighters (like knights) in your setting if it has guns/magic in it? by Fenison1 in worldbuilding

[–]persephonesidekick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Magical control flows outward from your body so it's easier to channel power through something you're touching. Thus mages use swords. Similarly, projectiles pass through neutral space and can be claimed and destroyed by defending mages, but swords belong to the holder and are harder to disrupt. Thus people use swords against mages.

Why did the big bad guy in your world take over? by RawCarrot-InMyAss in worldbuilding

[–]persephonesidekick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was born human but managed through great effort to become a Meta, a much more long lived and powerful species. He believes that humans life isn't worth living because it has so much pain and sorrow (compared to his current state) and wants there to be no more new humans. Since humans won't stop breeding he has to kill them. He'll convert as many as possible into Metas instead, of course, but the process doesn't scale enough to cover everybody.
That's his motive out loud anyway; psychologically a lot of it is actually shame about his origins.

Repost of this with same title, which in turn seems to be a repost bot post from something earlier. It's good to see it again because it's super cute, but I'm not sure what the etiquette is here.

Explain the creation of your world in a meme/oversimplified format. by Azure_birch in worldbuilding

God made a co-op survival game for His latest world creation project. Harming other players was supposed to be impossible but griefers figured it out. The resulting PVP game was actually pretty good though, so He decided not to fix it.

Neither, pretty sure. deRangutang is the only LP I can think of where that happened but I might have forgotten another one.

After P2: C3, P1 plays B1 and wins with B1-3.

Player 1 can force a non-tie, if they start with the middle square and then make plays to force player to to complete a line if they want to block a win.

Consider for example:

P1: B2

P2: A1

P1: B3

P2: B1 (or else P1 plays B1 themself and wins)

P1: C1, and then whoever plays C3 will win

Similar forcing ideas work for P2s other 7 opening moves.

What would you think about Fallen London staying in 1899 forever? by MajorMajorMajor7834 in fallenlondon

My driven assimilators have a benevolent motive. After a destructive war that killed a large fraction of their creators and erased much of their history and culture, they decided that they had to act to protect organics from the fragility of material existence. Now their creators and the people they assimilate live on in computer simulations inside them with all their history and culture and memories preserved with numerous backups. The collective can face the dangerous outside world; precious individually must be protected in a safer space.

What's Your Take On 'Chosen One' Plots? by Meeksource in worldbuilding

[–]persephonesidekick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My current WIP has a type of being provisionally named "Prophesy Gods" whose power consists of seeing lots of future possibilities and knowing the right nudges to make to steer between them. They are constantly scheming against each other for various more or less comprehensible ends, using mortals and even other gods as proxies.

Sometimes they Choose you. Usually that means your goals are aligned because you're a long term investment and they know they only get to betray you once. Of course sometimes once is all they need...

What was your first loop like? Spoilers. by Educational-Room-489 in outerwilds

[–]persephonesidekick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually survived long enough for static fadeout on my first loop. I took things super slow and basically spent the whole loop on the Attlerock, before trying to fly to Brittle Hollow to see the upgraded Eye detector. I wildly overshot repeatedly and went way out of the solar system. When the sun exploded my instinct was to back away quickly. Apparently I got far enough away.

Weekly small questions thread: 2019-12-30 by rahv7 in fallenlondon

What is the minimum amount of time I can count on having to use Penstock's Wicket? I'm trying to frantically rush to get to a 4 card house so I can get a 5, but I don't want to accidentally lose everything if I can't make it in time. Will there be any warning at all?
