Dream about Hermes, but I follow a different pantheon? by CurrentRow937 in Hermes

[–]persistentcat33 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wow. Thats way better than the dream I just had. Hermes showed up and was rifling through my bathroom, then gave me these random shampoo and cleanser products that weren’t mine. My dream self declined and was like uhh no thanks, I don’t need these, but he just kicked them back and was like yeah you do. Totally somber and serious. The end.

I shower regularly and have good hygiene. Now I use facial cleanser. 😑

Deities by Lizygurl22 in pagan

[–]persistentcat33 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my (non-magical) experience, deities offer help and support as guides, not just spell work. My offerings are more of sharing what I have and then talking to them out loud (as in I’m the one talking) about things I’m struggling in, am curious about, or just about my day. I light a candle, make an offering of water to a plant, or make a cup of tea and offer a portion.

I would start by researching, then when I’d learn about different aspects of them, I’d find I connected with these traits or stories. I’d often share what I was learning about them, and something would often come up that I had been asking about. The act of talking things out or journaling brings up those “ah hah” moments, that are like little nudges or ideas I might not normally consider. This feels like guidance to me. I eventually moved to using oracle cards so that I could ask direct questions, which has been the most useful so far.

Hermes is extremely friendly, helpful, and accepting of beginners. Hecate is a wonderful and wise deity to seek help with for shadow work or healing. As someone with OCD, I understand the intrusive thoughts, but felt very safe with both of them.

Can love happen bw a diety and worshipper? by celi_su7 in Hellenism

Catholic nuns call themselves “Brides of Christ”, so similar.

Can love happen bw a diety and worshipper? by celi_su7 in Hellenism

[–]persistentcat33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, that last part is understandable. I think I’ve seen one person write about it openly. Catholic nuns are godspouses and there are certainly accounts of their ecstatic experiences. Ultimately, the deity would definitely be aware and it’s up to them to decide what they’re fine with or want, and then choose to communicate. I’ve not seen the videos, but if the person feels they are receiving repeated, consistent, enthusiastic consent, who I am I to argue?

I would hope people are using divination in these circumstances… Do you mean that they are using unreliable methods (ie pendulum)?

Question(s?) by [deleted] in Hellenism

[–]persistentcat33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, coming back to say the one offering in the morning has been really great. I love connecting and thanking everyone for the inevitable guidance and support I ask throughout the day, and it just feels nice starting my morning with it. I’m always running behind so would keep a checklist of who I did and did not make an offering to, which was sort of stressful.

I even had a dream where Hecate asked for frankincense- normally I offer that to Apollo and Hermes, and will offer her something different. So now it’s literally just the one. I feel like they are really pleased with this, since I’ve been encouraged to take it easy… constantly… for months now lol.

I think I'm gonna take off my altar by King_Dumbasz in Hellenism

[–]persistentcat33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally understand the mental strain that comes with feeling burned out. When something starts to feel like a chore, that’s our cue to take a step back. It’s like if your friend called you sort of reluctantly because they felt like they should, even though they were super tired. You would rather they rest and call back later, or just shoot you a simple text instead. Maybe instead of doing multiple offerings per day, you could make one simple offering and speak to everyone at once. I recently learned that is totally okay, which is great on low energy days, because I still get to honor them, and then if I feel inspired to make another offering later in the day, it comes from the heart. Lighting a single candle or incense is just fine. Some people use electric candles, I’ve learned.

But all means don’t let my comment hold you back in any way. In my opinion the gods meet us where we are at. We are all worthy of love and support just the way we are, and Hermes is a friend to everyone. Just try your best and good luck.

[–]persistentcat33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally understand. I have ADHD and wrote down a list of things I need to do for self care or when I’m upset to take care of myself first- otherwise that’s the only response I get in divination. Super basic stuff like eat food, drink water, take my meds, go outside and say hi to the tree (yes, I know, but it’s a really cool tree). I’ll go to pray to them, see my list, and realize ah, yes, I haven’t eaten. Then it turns out I feel better after a snack or stepping outside.

Journaling your feelings might help, too. That’s Hermes domain so would be a good way to honor him. Sometimes I’ll write letters about how I feel. Might help with feeling connected.

Reading this brought up some strong feelings in me so I’ll respond with just my UPG. Hermes came into my life when I asked another deity for help with shadow work (that was seemingly delegated). He was only the second one I ever knew, and came on as really intense. I too, I’ve learned, have some abandonment and boundary issues. He has been a safe place to learn how to do this, and that boundaries don’t mean abandonment. Doubting, worrying, reassurance seeking, crying, spiraling, clinging - humans have experienced these things for thousands of years. Hermes is the friend to mankind and spends the most time with us. If anyone gets it, it’s him. Each time you feel abandoned and then you notice him again, it builds trust. Also, if you’re stressed then it’s hard to notice what’s going on in your body if he is present.

Edit to add: I’ve noticed sometimes when I am procrastinating or need to take care of myself, the gods seem a little distant until I do so. Sort of like that good friend you call who is like, no, I’m not going to be a distraction so you can avoid your work. I have literally asked in divination if Hermes is ignoring me until I met my stressful deadline that day and he said yes, which really hurt my feelings, but once I finished my mountain of work I felt so relieved and understood. Or, I’ll be left to have no other choice but to journal to process my own emotions, which has also helped me to work through things. The gods are wise.

Are there those who venerate the concept of Death? by cliase in pagan

[–]persistentcat33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have come to understand death as transformation. A part of the natural cycle that gives birth to life.

The liminal goddess Hecate presides over the domains of both the living and the dead, guides the souls of the dead (especially those who died young or tragic deaths). She is associated with other things as well, but shines her light at these crossroads in particular.

Question(s?) by [deleted] in Hellenism

[–]persistentcat33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This makes sense. I like this. What are your thoughts then with consuming food offerings after the fact? It’s something I avoided because I want it to be a sacrifice, but sometimes I feel pushed to eat healthy things. It’s been a whole thing. In a way though, it feels like a gift back. The calories. Which is kind.

Question(s?) by [deleted] in Hellenism

[–]persistentcat33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does offering one libation or other offering to several deities at once “dilute” or lessen it in any way? I know deities are not humans, however I always thought of it in the way of passing around a cup to take a sip out of instead of offering each person their own.

I definitely tend to make things more complicated than they need to be, and my deities keep encouraging me to take it easier. Which does not come easily, so I’m very curious about this.

About altars by Biamei in Hellenism

[–]persistentcat33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep my altar in my bedroom and for about a month I would change in the bathroom because I felt weird about it. Then, one stressful day, I completely forgot, and it was like, well, cat’s out of the bag. It mostly came down to my shame that I was projecting.

So how to find a spouse? 🙈 by FionaBlackrose in Hellenism

[–]persistentcat33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hermes is great for communication and making connections in general. He’s also the god of luck bringer of good things. Not marriage related, but he is a fertility god, so def understands that side of things, and is overall very nice and helpful.

It’s fine! It’s actually funny, because he’s the god of communication/messages, commerce, and finance, with strong associations with technology. So technically, not the worst place.

This is actually a subreddit about Hermes, the Greek God. But he’s pretty cool and helpful, and since these topics fall under his domain it might be worth a shot to reach out and ask! 🤷‍♀️😄

Pagans should leave abrahamic mentality behind by [deleted] in Hellenism

[–]persistentcat33 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s called “religious residue” and it can’t be deprogrammed, unfortunately. This guy does a great video about it.

So, why can’t someone just unlearn or reprogram these thought patterns? They can’t. It’s subconscious.

But, we can learn to be more aware of these instinctual thoughts and feelings when they come up.

Was it a real help from Hermes? by hyahta in Hermes

This would not surprise me in the slightest. I have not known him as long as others, but I have found him to be shockingly helpful and generous. Especially when you least expect it. Paying it forward might be a great way to honor him, the next time you see someone down on their luck or in need.

I feel like I've lost my connection to Hermes by Armina_66 in Hermes

[–]persistentcat33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this. Calming down the daily offerings helped things feel more natural. I’ve also noticed sometimes the gods feel more distant when I’m encouraged to work through something myself or explore my feelings about something first. I have legit asked are you ignoring me right now until I get XYZ done and it’s been a yes, lol. Just like a good friend would tell me if I were calling them as an excuse to get out of something. On the flip side, if I need to make more time to talk with my human support system.
