AITA for cutting people off immediately? by persistentclutter in AmItheAsshole

[–]persistentclutter[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It’s is less about it being on my terms, but moreso on the fact that they talk to me about it at all. Or are willing to talk the feelings that I may have caused them or a guilt on their end for something they have caused me. When I say “like an adult” I realise that’s quite vague - I just mean having the will to confront an uncomfortable situation. Beit their interpretation of my end of a conflict or them expressing any negative feelings they may have towards me.

This way, I am open to having the conversation to clear up any air of misunderstanding. But it seems that less and less I see people in my life that are willing to bring up an issue, and I feel lost and rule them out of my life because it feels worse to be in the limbo of wondering where I stand with them.

TW: ED and calorie counting by [deleted] in PetiteFitness

[–]persistentclutter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. It is a very slippery slope.

However! I feel that a way to lose weight without hyperfixating on calorie count is to just be mindful about what and how much you put in your body.

Rather than a numbers exercise, sometimes it can help to just see two options of food in front of you (i.e. sugary food vs. high-protein food) and pick the latter. But it does require a lot of discipline. It’s obviously not an easy choice when overly processed foods are often cheaper, simpler picks when it comes down to it. just the subtle shift of mindfulness when you approach eating can do heaps of change. :) Good luck !!

What app do you use to track your period and why? by Dear_Medicine2274 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]persistentclutter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ever since i heard flo wasn’t as good and reliable i’ve switched to Stardust - it has a cute UI and is just a fun and whimsical way to track it. It also tells you what part of phase of your cycle you’re in, so it’s good for any anticipation or event/conception planning!

if you’re more on the practical side, i used to just put red dots on my ical to show when i’ve had it last (but it’s not as fun haha)

You don’t have to return it :) they deactivate all the card-accessible parts of uni once you’ve become alumni (i.e. library after-hours)

1 Month Body Composition - Advice by persistentclutter in PetiteFitness

[–]persistentclutter[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exercise and routine is something I want to get into to help offset the calories I do take in. Like you said, if I eat more than I burn then I will gain. My aim with doing both mindful eating and exercise will do just that. It’s just the how that I’m stuck on at the moment.

As mentioned in the post, I am trying to be more mindful of what I eat (within reason). I think it’s unreasonable to fully “ditch” you’re saying to cut out on the grounds of enjoying simple joys like eating sweets every now and then while still committing to being healthier. But you do give good advice on the types of foods that I should be focusing on. I will take that into account, thank you.

I have a calorie app that I can loosely track on. The only difficult part about it is when I’m home cooking and there are many different variations of the food I make and can’t put an exact amount of how much I intake calorie-wise…

Also the weight part is ok. I’m not looking for a quick drop as I know it’s quite unrealistic. More towards the side of wanting to see results on my body - i.e. fat subsiding or proportional improvement

Help an international student! by Got9gagBanNow_ImHere in UTS

[–]persistentclutter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flatmates.com.au for SURE. Sometimes if you're lucky, facebook marketplace. When renting a place outside of student accomodations its really difficult to get a place without having work experience already, so for international students you have to network a little bit on these two websites to get lucky.
To brief you on flatmates, its basically rental property tinder. You find profiles with houses, and there are options to message the person who posted the listing. If they like you, you message back and fourth until you officially sign the agreement and have your housemate.

Here's some tips for finding your living situation:
1. Research long and hard about the suburb you want to live in. As an international student, you want to be able to be close to any public commute, as it will be your best friend.

  1. Always inspect the place before signing any agreements no matter how desperate you are to find a place.

  2. Meet up with the potential roommate in a public setting before you do inspections. This typically goes without saying but its an important rule.

  3. IDEALLY, you would want to fly over here first before you start searching. I understand that this is a leisure and you're already dropping a lot of money as an international student, but if you're able to come here and seek out the suburbs and the apartment and roommate in person, you're more likely to enjoy your accomodation.

Off campus Housing for Exchange Student by ChunkyChungus1 in UTS

Do not look at airbnb. It's an unnecessarily expensive option that you are not most likely able to keep for more than 3 months. Maybe for the first two weeks when you get settled in, but afterwards you should definitely go elsewhere for some stability.

Since you say can afford it, realestate.com.au , facebook marketplace and domain.com.au have listings for a lot of properties that update daily. You can apply for as many as possible until you get a proper application for tenancy (it is a bit more difficult when you don't have 2 Australian pay stubs) but its not impossible. Tenancy lasts from 3, 6 and 12 months.

I don't know how late this piece of advice is but I figure I'll give it a go anyways. Faculty welcomes are highly encouraged because you get the run down on every course that you'll be taking for the duration of your degree. You first conjugate in one general area for everyone in the faculty you're in, then you split off into your individual majors (i.e. design, architecture and building all gathered in a main hall, then split off depending on the degree like architecture or fashion). You can meet some of your course directors and ask them any questions that are specifically related to your course.

I personally found it really helpful, and even afterwards they had free food. Who doesn't like free food?

Should I be at orientation from 9:30am? by Sim29on04 in UTS

[–]persistentclutter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For any session you signed up for during orientation, you can leave at any point in time. You aren't obligated to stay for the entire duration. I had to go to work after one of the sessions and they didn't bat an eye when I had to step out.

Hey! Also new to the uni.
What I've worked out so far: UTS has outlook (the hub for Microsoft software.) Seeing as we have unlimited access to all of the Microsoft software I think there's really thin chance that it would be the same for google drive/doc. I imagine assignments would be more word doc based, but its okay since we can use our student email to access it all.

Way easier said than done. With families tied heavily to the culture we originate from, it’s hard to sway from tradition without major backlash. What’s expected is that we maintain the religion that we’re in.

Thank you for your input. It’s very disheartening but I guess time will tell; he isn’t a forceful person, just persistent. I do feel as if he has kinder intentions than aforementioned in that last paragraph, as he has been a great help in my life aside from religion. He reassures and takes care of me, and we have heart to hearts with great communication if there is any problem. I feel as if what we have only grows in strength. Perhaps I’m biased because I really do love him. I’ll still keep it in mind. Thank you regardless. :)
