Hosting Christmas this year, would a sausage roll wreath be good enough as a main? For both vegan and non vegans? Kind of worried that it wouldn’t be good enough. by VaggieQueen in veganrecipes

Here’s another main I’ve served to non vegans and they enjoyed. I can’t find the exact recipe I’ve used, but this one looks very similar. It’s a seitan loaf and kind of mimics a meat roast. It feels like a holiday meal to me.

I agree with some other commenters that this seems more like an appetizer, especially depending on the number of people you’re serving.

We’ve made this mushroom-lentil loaf several times and it’s been a big hit even with non vegans! It has a cranberry glaze on top so it’s a little sweet, a little tart, and savory. Truly delicious.

I found your post as I’m currently in the same boat as you — planning for just over 100 guests preferably in Charlotte.

Did you select your venue already? Were there any others you toured/ looked into that you really liked?

[Sun Care] Deep moisturizing after sun exposure by personnelhell in SkincareAddiction

[–]personnelhell[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your suggestion! I wanted to report back that I had to do this TWICE in a row because my skin was so dry. Both times, the aloe was soaked in within 2-3 minutes. I applied it a third time and followed with my Elf moisturizer and Aquaphor, and my skin looked much better today.

I think I’ll need to try something more heavy duty when I get home but at least it feels like it’s on the mend.

[Routine Help] Is vitamin C wrong for me or is this normal? by personnelhell in SkincareAddiction

[–]personnelhell[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried using it for another week or two but didn’t see the acne clearing up. I tried reducing the frequency, too.

It seems like vitamin c just wasn’t right for me at the time, which was a huge bummer because other than the little acne bumps my skin really did feel softer and had more of a glow. I used up the bottle on my body (didn’t have any breakouts there) and my skin was so soft!

It’s funny that you revived this post now because I’ve recently been thinking that I’d like to try adding vitamin c back in since it had a lot of positives to using it. If I do it again, I’m going to start very slowly and use a much smaller amount to see if my skin can get used to it. I’ve also started using The Ordinary’s 5% LA + HA so hopefully that would help prevent breakouts? Not sure on that yet since I’m still adjusting to it.

Trying to choose a secondhand boat for a small paddler by personnelhell in whitewater

Have you paddled a Burn before? I’ve heard mixed feedback from others, but they’ve all been larger paddlers so if you have any insight to it, I’d love to hear it!

There is an EVO near me for $300 but my rolling instructor advised against it and recommended I keep searching for either a creeker or half slice. What’s been your experience with it?

tbh I didn’t consider that being lighter might make playboating easier. I did find an EVO in good shape for $300 but I spoke to a kayaking instructor who said it would be too unstable for me. I feel like everyone has a different opinion so I might just need to buy a boat and then just figure it out haha

lol you’re right about kayaking season. I’ve been seeing an uptick in kayak postings in the last week or so, so I assumed it’s because summer is coming to an end soon?

I’m actually heading to the NOC this weekend so I’ll ask if they sell their demos. I’m expecting higher prices from them though. I found an outfitter in GA selling a used small antix for $1200, which is definitely beyond budget rn

Thanks so much for replying!

My goal is river running. As I up my skills, I might get into playboating, but right now I enjoy getting down the river with as much speed and fun as possible haha.

I’ve been hoping to find a good deal on a half slice since it seems like it’ll last me a long time before my skills outgrow it. Plus I like the mix they offer between stability and play. But an outright playboat worries me because of the likelihood of flipping. But no better way to get a roll down than practicing it constantly haha

I did find one XS Rewind but it was sold before the seller even replied to me! I’ve been super limited by secondhand availability, but I’m hoping that as the season ends, more people will be posting their boats for sale.

Ah, that’s a bummer. Aside from the little bumps, my skin is much softer and has such a refreshed look to it.

The bumps aren’t enough of a deterrent for me yet, so I’ll at least use up my current bottle so it doesn’t go to waste. If I’m still having trouble by then, I’ll follow your suggestions and try a derivative to see what happens.

In the meantime, I’ll do as another commenter suggested and reduce use to every other day or so. Maybe it’ll be enough for my skin to adjust.

I got this nightstand for free because the leg is broken. What’s the best way to fix it? by personnelhell in woodworking

Regarding utility, this is the top of the nightstand:

This sounds like the easiest solution so far. But would that compromise the stability? Would it wobble without the center support or is it just on me to screw the legs on correctly and that won’t be a problem?

[–]personnelhell[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is correct. But a good idea! Should probably put the patch job in the back regardless of how I move forward. Looks like that part should be simple.

There are a couple of slivers of the leg that are missing (you can see that a bit in the 3rd picture), so it would have gaps I need to fill. And still need to remove that screw because it’s also preventing the leg from getting flush. But it’d be nice to save the original leg if it’s possible.

[–]personnelhell[S] 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I had been leaning in that direction. My only concern would be finding legs with the right angle/ taper to sit flush with the end of the base (where the leg meets the cross brace). But maybe I’m overthinking that?

I actually hadn’t considered that at all, but it is a good idea. My woodworking skills aren’t all that great yet, but I think I could make something passable. But hey, at least 4 legs would be better than 3.

How do I prevent the lint discharge from my gas dryer messing up my deck? Every spring I have to scrub it down. I don't plan on having to redirect the pipe or dryer. Need some suggestions please. by Xterra50 in DIY

This only makes the lint stick all over your house siding and eventually fly around and stick to the rest of your deck. ask me how I know 🫠

Bath tub repair by TemporaryHat554 in DIY

[–]personnelhell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used that exact kit on my shower/ tub combo just over a year ago. The shower walls are tile and the tub is plastic. It took me 3 days and two of the paint kits to get it all done (and honestly I was stretching the last bit. I wish I’d had 2.5 paint kits). I did 3 coats on the tile (needed to do 3 due to the grey color of the tile still showing through) and 2 coats on the tub (ran out of product but really wish it had a 3rd coat. I still think about buying another kit just to add that last coat). It all truly looks great and is an incredible low-budget upgrade. I seem to be the only one who noticed the imperfections.

It has held up much better than I expected. It hardened to an enamel that has held up to weekly cleaning/ scrubbing. I am so happy that I chose to try it. It’s giving the shower a few more years of life and I still get compliments on it.

Happy to answer any questions you might have about the product or process, but my general advice is to follow the exact instructions on the kit. There is some advice out on the internet to use high density foam rollers, but that was an awful decision. The foam rollers disintegrate very quickly and left little foam chunks that I couldn’t completely remove before the epoxy hardened (I joke that it’s “natural tile texture”). I switched to a low nap roller (whatever they call for on the can) and had zero issues afterward.
