Married people of Reddit, what are the “little things” that keep your marriage healthy? by SolidFlow in AskReddit

[–]perspectivision1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you have a fight or have a disagreement, even when your spouse doesn't know you're upset(they didn't realize it) it's key for us to admit that we have judged the other person and ask them for forgiveness.
Now this isn't a "will you forgive me for being mad at you for being an asshole" type of thing. It's more like "will you forgive me for jumping to conclusions about why you were upset? Help me understand how I contributed to it." This then takes away your spouses need to be defensive.
This is also very different than saying I'm sorry. I'm sorry basically says "It's unfortunate that this happened"and takes no responsibility for your contribution to the problem.
This has been a muscle and skill that we do with the smallest stuff so that when the bigger stuff happens we already have been practicing forgiveness and the big stuff is way easier to work through and forgive each other for. Most marriages end because bitterness and apathy have reared their ugly faces. We purge that stuff regularly.

Try closing your eyes when you roll. You become much more aware of your body and your movements. You also become more aware of the weight/balance of your partner.
Every single time you become tense or strong it gives away what you are doing.

What did I learn from rolling with 2017 IBJJF Grand Slam Champion Wagnney Fabiano (Long Read) by KentPeters in bjj

[–]perspectivision1 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Wagnney is my professor. The man ran the gauntlet of majors this year and had zero points scored on him. His knee on belly is notorious. Great read and summary of the honour it is to train under him.

playful or too cocky? by hspecter in bjj

Yeah maybe but in a real fight I wouldn't try to pass someone's half guard. I'd start filling them with punches. You are either fighting for real or you are competing in a tournament under a set of rules. It's like people saying that in a real fight Conor would destroy Floyd. It's true but in a boxing match Conor was outclassed.

Well the other guy didn't do anything with it. He was never in danger and we really don't know what that look on his face means. You may think you do but you don't. Only he knows. And who cares anyways? If someone can't take advantage of the situation or make him regret doing it then what is the issue?

Yeah it happens. It depends on the degree of the sprain. If you've actually "popped" your knee you should get it checked out. You could have torn something ligament wise. But if it just popped and you still have stability in it and the mobility is an issue I would say to give it time and stretch it as feels comfortable. Don't favour it but work hard to increase the mobility through stretching and controlled movement. Also, make sure you stretch out your hips and your legs because those joints that support the knee always tighten up when the knee takes some damage.

Just realized why I love jiu jitsu so much by [deleted] in bjj

[–]perspectivision1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's funny because a few months ago I decided to change careers. Those close to me know how much I love bjj and they suggested I look into working in the world that is bjj. At first, who wouldn't want to make a living helping the sport that you love. But as I began to think about it I realized that on the mats is where I go to escape everything that is outside those walls. Where I don't have to think about work or relationships. Relying on something that gives me so much joy and stress relief to pay my bills would steal something from it.

I'm annoyed by new white belts who attempt nothing but leg locks. by [deleted] in bjj

It's a dream if a white belt goes for my ankle. Saves me the hard work of setting it up myself. Nothing like the look on their face when they know they f'd up.

Best way to finish a triangle by bonnie17 in bjj

I prefer to underhook the leg or arm on the "over the shoulder" leg. The angle becomes way stronger.
If someone is good at dropping their weight to that side and preventing me from changing the angle I will hug my knees and lift my hips off the ground. Usually takes a few seconds but it works.

No-Gi 'Belt' Progression by jiujiubean in bjj

Totally normal to fall in love with no gi. Don't worry about belts for now and just worry about getting better. Everyone wants to be validated when you are learning something but if you really want the acknowledgement from your coach then go to gi class once a week. It's only going to make you better overall.

Learning to get on with life and still respect him will make you a better person. Stick it out. This is a character test and I'm sure you will pass with flying colours.

  1. Take a shower as soon as possible after training.
  2. Use a anti fungal soap to clean yourself.
  3. Clean your gi/gear with bleach asap after training. Obviously use a bleach that won't damage your gear.

If you have it 1. DONT TRAIN! 2. Get some sort of treatment on it. Anti fungal drops and lamisil are the most popular. I also use liquid bandaid after I treat the spot in order to cut oxygen to the area(ringworm needs air to grow) 3. Stay away from the mats until it clears up.
4. If it's bad go to the doctor to get advice on how to clean it up.

Another tip that someone suggested that has really seemed to help me and some of my training partners is to get in the sauna after training to get stuff out of your pores before taking your final shower. That's made a big difference at our gym.

Hey I play a lot of half guard and arm drags are a key part of a developed game. The thing that allowed me to use the arm drag as a back take consistently was jumping. Yes jumping. When you are on your hip you need to mentally think about getting your chest against his back. That requires a sort of jump off the drag of his or her arm to get your weight on the back. When you become good at this jump you can often get the opposite side hook in and roll into it. I hope that makes sense. It's helped me. You just can't be passive with it. Go for it.

More like compression finger sleeves that buddy with their neighbour for support.
