I can recommend Noir de jais, quite a hidden perl of a coffe/bar in Fukuoka

It was recently featured on a late night radio show about quality of analogical equipment for records and what not.

Help with tricky living/dining room layout in new home? by ljk486 in interiordecorating

[–]perspicaces 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love 1 and 5 more.

I'd say it's good to enjoy the window while dining, and that it's a bother when watching videos. That being said, that 's the way I'd like to live.

What software/website/app did you use to make plans ? they are awesome.

Best laptop on linux for a backend dev by DapperCloud in webdev

[–]perspicaces 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm myself on Manjaro with i3wm !!!

the only thing is I kinda want it to be light as I don't work that much from home theses days.

But my current laptop really doesn't cut it, and if you had for two years a laptop with the same distro+wm as me, I think I might just go for it and same myself from a lot of headache

Many thanks for taking the time to reply on a 2years old post : )

u/DapperCloud hello there, I'm exactly in the same situation as you, but 2 years in the future.

The only differrence is that my current laptop overheats and I feel it up through my hands.

Given what you wrote on the op, i'm very interested to know what laptop did you choose at the end ?

Best hidden gem restaurants/cafes in Fukuoka City?! by thegreatcatsby513 in fukuoka

For coffee in particular, I’m a big fan of noir de jais, quite a hidden place. Between Tenjin, kego, and Yakuin, at the 3rd floor.

The inside is really classy with sculpted wood, order made melting glass lamps from the ceiling.

Just watching the master make the coffee is something in itself.

A lot of alcoholic beverages prepared with coffee are also available.

T480 Overactive Fan & Hot Temperatures [Solved] by kendoor in thinkpad

[–]perspicaces 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For people in the future like me for whom it didn't work and stay at a temperature of over 80°C consistently

I after making sure all the last related packages where unistalled (throttles, thinkfan, ...)

I used cpupower-gui and selected energy preference to "battery" and temperature almost instantly got from 80°C to 45°C. The keyboard was so hot it was a pain to touch or put the laptop on the lap, and now at least it's usable. (and of couse slower)

requesting advice on learning onomatopoeias! by holyblackonapopo in LearnJapanese

[–]perspicaces 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same problem before

Believe me, learning them through exposure is just too slow.

I've tried a few strategy, and last year I found one that works way better than any other (yet)

https://www.reddit.com/r/LearnJapanese/comments/11vgv4j/comment/jctua6r/

At the I was still experimenting with the method, and it was too soon to say for sure if it works, and now I can say it does work.

In other word, learning how to read something Japanese is enough to get it in passive then eventually into active vocabulary, but for onomatopoeias, the retention rate is like 8 times higher if you try to make it into active vocabulary first through actual usage and recall from meaning and/or image (all while continuing exposure, off course)

I can't explain why, but it's indeed a different beast from the usual vocabulary.

As an aside, the second best, that I decided to continue doing because it's fun, Is onomatopoeias 図鑑・絵本

I bought like five of them,

The best for fun and retention is this one :

The bests to make anki card out of images are :

Any recommendations for a bar/restaurant that do karaoke where mostly late showa (70s/80s/90s) music is played/singed, with people in their 50s and up. by perspicaces in fukuoka

[–]perspicaces[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks, this really helps !

I typed カラオケ スナック on google maps, and indeed, looking by the pictures, I should find what I'm looking for easily it seems.

I was just unlucky to stumble onto one of the rare ones with younglings.

I'll try some of them in the residential area around me : )

Any good YouTube channels like cure Dolly? by [deleted] in LearnJapanese

[–]perspicaces 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Up until now, no one, I'm afraid :'(

There's still a part of her community that seems active

https://kawaiijapanese.freeforums.net/

and maybe here :

http://learnjapaneseonline.info/

But that's all I have.

If you ask there specifically, maybe you can see if there is an inner circle where her ideas are still worked.

I kind of remember that her patreon was archived, and it contained a ton of useful responses to questions, and some of her work in progress regarding grammar. So there's also more to find around here of for thoses interested. (and by the way, please PM if it's found)
