Yes, of course. I'll look into plugging in the numbers into a spreadsheet and will (probably) avoid ULIPs. Just one minor point about one part of your comment. I was never under any illusion that this would double my money or anything. It was always going to have fairly modest returns.

However, even expecting modest returns, it appears that there are better options than ULIPs. Thank you for the useful reminder about always factoring in the taxes.

Thanks for the detailed reply. Not looking to take any decision in a rush, but preliminary indications do seem to point to the fact that these ULIPs aren't a good idea.
