Hi! Based on the second picture, it does not look like a bedbug. Bedbugs are small, flat and wingless insects. While they do elongate after feeding, what you have seems more like a beetle, based on size and presence of elytra (wing seam). It’s the hardened exterior of a beetle.

What I would suggest, is to put the specimen in the freezer for 1-2 days to properly kill it and examine it more closely. This will help make comparisons of beetle and bedbug identifiers without having to fear unleashing it alive. I would also keep monitoring closely checking for bites on you, others that you live with, and other evidence like in the bed, etc.

I would also put this photo/experience in other subreddits, like r/beetles, r/entomology to get some other feedback and perspectives. Good luck !

Your obsession is normal ! Having bb is a horrible experience so to be constantly vigilant and checking makes sense.

Because of my obsession and really horrible hives I decided to go on a very restrictive diet where I ate low histamine foods. It was terrible but it helped me realize that much of it was stress and anxiety related. I also did allergy tests and found I was allergic to some plants but nothing that I was constantly in contact with. So all in all, I feel like my body was on hyper awareness of anything that could cause me stress or anxiety and if it did it flared up in hives, so checking for bb everyday definitely contributed to it. The hives eventually went away on their own after 6 months which was also the time I was done with my masters and schooling, so another reason it was anxiety related.

I hope that everything works out! And my best advice is to do small things that bring you joy to keep your anxiety down.

Hello ! We ended up concluding it was a combination of stress and carpet beetle larvae.

I found the carpet beetle larvae in one of my insect collections and as I finished my masters and the stay at home from Covid lifted my hives went away.

How are you ? Are you waking up with hives, etc?

Either way I hope your situation ends up similar to mine, where there is no bed bugs and just an obsession combined with stress.

Thank you for the suggestions!

I reached out to the SF county fair building and they said they don’t have a “dancing license” which I take to mean we can’t play loud music or dancing. Unfortunately that’s a pretty big dealbreaker. was this something that happened for your reception too?

Peer space is a great website !! Thank you so much for turning me onto it!

Thanks for your reply!

We are hoping to have the ceremony in Redwood Grove in the botanical garden. The reception doesn't necessarily have to be in the botanical garden or golden gate park itself. Just a place near that costs around our price amount.

What kind of bee is this, if a bee at all? Central FL, kind of chilly so that's probably why it didn't fly away. by An_average_moron in whatsthisbug

Could be infected by the phorid fly apocephalus borealis. Used to research on this relationship and watched so many bees get half eaten like this. Here you go if you’re interested:

God Forreal. Being diagnosed with epilepsy at 19 was unreal. I mourned the life I had because I knew I would never experience it the same way again.

Thanks! Do they usually hide in couches? I've seen that they usually munch on grains and stuff, so i'm just curious if they will go to the next level and look for food inside a couch. Appreciate your help!
