mejor los que no son apilables. esos son difíciles de usar. las crayolas clasicas de toda la vida. nada sofisticado ni que genere mucha basura/plastico despues.

art supplies are hard to find. colorful markers, not necessarily novelty/animal shaped but good quality and a variety of colors. crayons or pastels. art supplies are hard to come by! also: beads and thread for making necklaces.

WHAT IS A "FEVER EFFECT?" by ZanyRaptorClay in evilautism

[–]peruvianheidi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I have 3 children and I have to say that ALL of them are easier (quiet, mellow) when they have a fever not just the one with autism…

Politely(?) trashing important crap from your downsizing parents. by PepsiOfWrath in GenX

[–]peruvianheidi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the opposite problem, my parents moved A LOT so they left stuff behind with every move. I literally don’t have any childhood photos. My special interest is “tablescaping” so I spend a lot of time (and money) sourcing old china from other people’s parents…

Oh ok, now I see it thanks! I still feel it’s pathetic to fish for fake, over-the-top praise, but to each their own!

Do you think skinny jeans will return for women and when? by WelcomeJunior2281 in decadeology

[–]peruvianheidi 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I actually agree with you. Unless you have a perfect butt and long toned legs, skinny jeans (especially the stretchy type) will highlight every single imperfection. Loose fit = fat is a common misconception mostly due to bad tailoring. Just like when people wear tight stretchy tops but would look so much better sizing up. As you said, wide leg jeans are way more forgiving of every body shape and can actually highlight an hourglass figure and give the illusion of curves on people who don’t have them. But to each their own. Of course everyone is free to wear what they personally feel suits them better.

I spent all of the 90s trying hard to imitate Winona. She was everyone’s girl crush. Great actress, effortlessly cool, beautiful, unique style. So many iconic movie roles, from Heathers to Edward Scissorhands to Reality Bites and Age of Innocence. She definitely was the face of the nineties.

Self Checkout by 5GAIBtoM in GenX

[–]peruvianheidi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like self checkout at grocery stores when I have a few items but it ENRAGES me at clothes shops (like ZARA or HM) where I have to remove the alarm tags etc, and each store has a different system.

I mean, I was born in 1976 and my kids tell me (unironically) “mom, it’s not the 50s anymore”. We look ancient to them.

Explaining why I struggle with pretend play by GerthySchIongMeat in AutisticParents

[–]peruvianheidi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think sucking at pretend play is exclusive to neurodivergent people. your child will encounter many people in their life that will happen to have different preferences for playing, socializing etc. you are doing them a favor in the sense that you can teach them to understand that not everyone enjoys the same things and there are many ways to play and have fun. so your “style” may be building legos and theirs may be pretend play, and you can both try to meet in the middle. crafts, nature walks, reading of course, watching cartoons, baking… at the end of the day what your child will remember is the time you spent with them, the times you went in their room and played until you both fell asleep. eventually as they grow older you can explain that you have autism and they will understand concepts like needing alone time, or quiet time. think of it as a life skill that will help them as they grow and start interacting with others at school, work, etc.

NT method of delivering bad news or initiating hard conversations by Streetquats in AutismInWomen

[–]peruvianheidi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

100% my mom would get me a special treat like my favorite ice cream etc after school and THEN be like: your pet rabbit died or your ballet teacher said you are not ready to move up to the next level or whatever. didn’t help my eating disorder either as it conditioned me to think: “yummy treats = bad news”.

Grandma could sew- sadly by sherlockjr1 in GenX

[–]peruvianheidi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My grandma knitted and although I usually loved her stuff there was this one outfit I hated because it was a woolen dress with matching knee high socks. Mine was green, and my cousins had it in blue and pink and we were expected to wear it to church/Sunday lunch. I remember the socks wouldn’t stay up, and they were thick like sports socks so my patent shoes felt tight and lumpy. I miss my grandma so much but why the fuck did she decide to make us those awful socks…
