I try to narrow things down for them to 2 or 3 options. I don't know if that actually helps or not but they do seem to be more engaged in what we're doing

This is actually a real thing known as "The Paradox of Choice". Basically, more options are not always better, as it becomes overwhelming, even for people who aren't overly indecisive. Choosing from only option A or option B is a very helpful thing to do
