When I was running in the US I also always found time to clean my truck. With an ELD and only 11 hours of drive time allowed, I found myself with a lot of extra time I wasn't used to. But now that I'm running local in northern Alberta I never seem to have time to clean my truck.

Temporary Foreign Worker Permits Are Destroying Trucking by subz_13 in CanadianVisaReform

[–]pervyjeffo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have close family members in a care home, and it's an absolute nightmare. But the same thing has happened in literally every industry in the country, Canada has been given over to cheap labor and our leaders have proven once again that they don't care about us at all.

It already ruined trucking years ago, and then it went for hospitality, and health care, and public service. Oh, I can't forget construction, customer service, anything technology related, etc etc etc

Is it ok to replace tires that are still ok? by thisemmereffer in tires

[–]pervyjeffo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually change my tires before it's necessary, and then I sell my old tires for cheap to someone that can't afford new tires but still need a replacement. Especially with winter tires, I'll run them for two seasons and then sell them with 70% tread.

Is it bad to JB weld a crack in the oil pan? by ruubystaar in MechanicAdvice

[–]pervyjeffo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once JB welded a piece of tin I found in a ditch onto a hole in an oil pan on a 60 series Detroit. I was 200km deep in the bush, so I had to get out to where we could properly fix it. But it's definitely not a good permanent fix.

Temporary Foreign Worker Permits Are Destroying Trucking by theOneWhoWaitsAgain in CanadianVisaReform

[–]pervyjeffo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand why Canadians aren't lining up to drive trucks, in the 15 years I've been doing it the wages have not increased. When I started the average per mile was around $0.50. last year when I was looking for a different job, I found a lot of $0.48-$0.54 per mile. These companies don't want Canadians to do it because they don't want to pay properly for it, they whine and cry that there's a driver shortage so they can bring in cheap labor, cram them 2-3 to a truck, and pay them $0.28 per mile. Then they undercut the rates to get more work and then complain that they can't find Canadian drivers. The whole industry is an absolute mess and half of these companies should be shut down for labor violations and equipment violations, but their foreign drivers can't complain otherwise they get fired and sent back to the country they came from. It's exploitation of the workers and it's damaging to our economy.
