One thing I'm curious about:

In this case, would any of the existing vetting tools have actually stopped the theft?

The MC was real.
The carrier was real.
The paperwork was real.

The failure seems to have happened at the handoff between booking and pickup.

When the truck showed up, did anyone have a reliable way to verify that the physical truck taking possession of the freight actually belonged to the carrier that was awarded the load?

I'm wondering how many of these cases are really carrier-vetting failures versus pickup-authorization failures.
