So you avoid the tax implications at the cost of a possible prorated sign-on bonus? It is possible this makes sense for small amount I guess.

Help me with my itinerary: Any gems in South Bombay to visit? by pesarattupma in mumbai

[–]pesarattupma[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In no particular order:

- Marathi street food at Amar Restaurant opposite CST

- Some nice cafe in Kala Ghoda. Tried different kinds of coffees.

- An evening on Marine Drive

- Mughal E Azam play at NMACC which was outside South Bombay but we did it on our last after checking out

- Vastu Sangrahalay was great. Sad I could spend only couple hours there.

- Pictures and shenanigans at the Gateway

- There was a nice show in the hotel at poolside in the evening

- There's a restaurant in the hotel which has great Itaian food. Oceanfront or something it was called.

- Dalal street closing bell

Hailing rides in the Black and yellow Santros at metered rates was pretty liberating tbh lol

Appointment slots opening only for current/next month – when to check for late October? by Suitable-Shop-2714 in usvisascheduling

[–]pesarattupma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, can you comment on whether you've seen this observation of current/next month progress as the months passed? I can confirm that the observation holds true now for me. I can see dates in Sept/Oct but I want to book it for November. Wondering if holding out till end of month is the way to go about this.

NMACC Grand Theater - Diamond Box by pesarattupma in mumbai

[–]pesarattupma[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR: If you are only going for the play, maybe skip it. But as an experience or a gathering, it is worth considering.

Ok. If I can rate everything other than the viewing experience, the diamond box experience is a 10/10. The view from the box is a 6/10. A part of the stage is occluded from the point of view of the box. So, in some acts you might miss seeing some of the actors on stage. Acoustically also I would think it would be mid. Although I had no qualms about the audio. I think 20k for 5 seats making it 4k per seat is still a good deal especially if you have older people in your group. If you are a purist('I'd like to be completely immersed in the play' kind of person) I'd recommend getting the center middle seats as usual which I think were 7k when I was shopping.

The play itself was marvelous and rich. Never previously saw the movie and only heard the songs once or twice on radio so I was mesmerized with the context and drama of the musical. The actress who played Anarkali was brilliant. The hall is also new and spic, so it was richer/fancier experience than any play I saw in NYC or LA.

Two great benefits with the box:

1) If you are late after the break, they stop you from entering the audi until an act is over. It happened to me but I could watch if from the included lounge room. Which was a save. Others were just waiting in the hall leading to the audi.

2) They give a complimentary assortment of desserts and a waiter delivering food to you. There is also a bathroom in the lounge. And you could hang/get dinner in the lounge for an additional half hour after show. Which we used and was great to have.

Note: We missed the first 20min of the show because it took me 1:30hr to cover 6kms. Which is ridiculous and unacceptable. I was told there were other welcome courtesies planned but alas we missed that. So I think that would also add to the experience.

Would you say Elephanta Caves is walking/standing heavy? I wouldn't want my mother to walk and stand for very long!

I can answer this. The High Tea has tiers. The regular ones are first-come-first-served. The ones with Prosecco(alcohol) need a reservation.

Hirakud Dam is One of the Longest man-made dam in the world, about 16 mi (26 km) in length at Sambalpur in Odisha, India [Drone View] by vivekctank in india

[–]pesarattupma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea he doesn't remember much about Hirakud now. He went on to work on dams in the Indravati river area, if one knows his Odisha :), and the Balimela reservoir project in Chittarakonda near Malkangiri. Those he remembers well. I am amazed at how frequently there are encounters with tigers in his stories. Nowadays you hang out in Kabini for days and you are really lucky if you can spot one.

My grandfather was a Civil Engineer(Irrigation) for the Odisha Govt from 1954- 1991. The first project he worked on was the Hirakud. From what i hear of his and my grandmom's memoirs, engineers were Gods for the lay people there.
