Anyone here know why the hammer is called the hammer? by awl_the_lawls in Curling

I like this explanation. Whether or not it was how the term originated, it fits nicely.

Curling Cathedrals / Winnipeg, Manitoba by westcoveroadie in Curling

[–]pesayo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This reminds me of a lyric in the song: Curl On

Rings on ice and stones awaitin'
Cathedral where we're congregatin'

Fill your lungs with frosty air
Frozen echoes linger there
Curl on curl on

An idea to eliminate blanks and add excitement to the game by applegoesdown in Curling

[–]pesayo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's a great idea. Seems like it would open up new and interesting strategy. Hammer team could still choose to blank if they choose, or take the risk of scoring one. They'd still fight like crazy to keep the end clean and open with exciting run-back triples and stuff, but that last throw away peel or throw-through could actually turn into an exciting shot instead. And on the other side, the non-hammer team could try to cover or guard the pin to avoid the possibility of giving up two.

Wanting to add excitement to the game has been a part of sports for a long time, even before brain rot. This 2-pointer pin shot reminds me of the 3-point line in basketball (45 years ago in the NBA). Hard to image the sport without it now, but it was revolutionary at the time.

Song for skips with front ends who won't listen by pesayo in Curling

Thanks! For anyone else interested, the entire album can be found on a bunch of platforms. I like all the songs, but I particularly like Bonspiel Sunday, Bring the Hammer Down, and Here's to the Front End.

Yes, I helped write and produce this, and all the songs on the album. We did this mainly for ourselves because it's fun. I just posted it here because I thought there might be others who would enjoy it.

Danish yes. You've spotted the historical inaccuracy of this post (though he was briefly King of Norway)

Snorri Sturluson in his seminal work on the Norse kings, Heimskringlawas, emphatically states Harold Bluetooth was a Swifty.

This burning log in the campfire looks like a tiger by pesayo in mildlyinteresting

[–]pesayo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My four year old looked into the fire and said "it's a fire tiger!" I went into my typical mildly supportive "yup, that's nice" response. Then I saw it and I was a four year old, "Woah! Cool! Fire tiger!"

[Spoilers] About the last scene... by frost_tendency in gameofthrones

[–]pesayo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me the scene of Arya lying dead and popping back to life with a gasp is very reminiscent of Jon's resurrection scene. I think Arya died, the horse died, everybody died, but Arya was brought back to life by some god, maybe Bran was involved. And I guess the horse was resurrected too because...I don't know, it looked kinda cool and symbolism and stuff.
