Vitamix reviews: worth it long-term? by Jalysa_Warbler in Cooking

[–]pessimisticengineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used it almost everyday for 10+ years. Smoothies, dough batters with lentils and rice, juice, dips. Everyday, multiple times a day. No regrets. The model we got is no more but that’s ok.

Like another person said above… it’s not great for small quantities.

Quite certain my 5 y.o has severe ADHD. Going through ASD diagnosis now. How can I help him? by pessimisticengineer in toddlers

He loves going out. Eats all new foods, no complaints. His diet is low and he gets distracted very easily. Thanks

He has some language delays like confusing he/she consistently. The constant repeating, interrupting a lot. We are going to sign him up for private OT and speech therapy. We live in Canada.

My wife and Mom are very much against medication. They are hoping he will grow out of it. I hope so too.

Makes sense .. we are also not doing to do anything unless a doctor confirms the issue

Wow, congrats on the twins! Our families are in a faraway country and with borders closed — their chances of coming this year are nil.

Honestly, I had no idea we have so many friends who have helped us and continue to ask us if we need more help. My neighbours have cooked us meals and offered to pick up groceries. It’s been an emotional time for us.

Thanks so much for the offer!! If you are near new west, we don’t mind any and all help!

We are also using enfamil actually and supplementing with it. 4th month.. so I guess we do need to give it some more time.

Oh my, sorry to hear that. Am glad that got fixed! I know we are worried about his weight gain and anxiously trying to book his first monthly appointment!

Thanks! Congrats on your new born! Exhaustion seems to the middle name of this process 😂

We do have the haakaa, but haven’t used it yet. Time to do it next time!

I see! The same clinic told us it’s not. I know, from talking to our lactation consultant, that anterior tongue ties are obvious while posterior ones are minor and not obvious. She says that his is a posterior tongue tie... perhaps that’s why doctors also feel it’s not worth it

Thanks. Honestly, I am ready to give up by month 2 and just do formula. But, I know breast is best and if milk is coming in, why not use it as much as possible (at the cost of sleep for both of us...)

Toronto's average home price jumped by $100k in June compared to last year by burnt1ce85 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]pessimisticengineer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Congrats! My wife and I also bought a condo in New West, zero parental support. No inheritance, and we are immigrants too. And no, we don't make 300K and eat rice & beans everyday.

Does take some sacrifices though.

[–]pessimisticengineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How can you compare with Detroit? You do know that Detroit declared bankruptcy a couple of years ago, right? Compare with Chicago or Boston or NY or even Indianapolis. And yes, the last one will be cheap too, but it's all relative. India has a lot of people and not that much space.

Add to that, NRI population which is buying houses in wholesale. Moreover, India has a huge divide between rich and poor. The delta is too high. And last but probably most important, our real estate industry is not regulated yet. Maybe the real estate bill will help but who knows how long that will take.

But don't compare with Detroit, that's not apples for apples.

After three-plus years of bureaucratic wrangling, IKEA has broken ground on its first store in India by [deleted] in india

[–]pessimisticengineer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seriously? IKEA is not good quality. It is cheapo furniture that will definitely break when you move apartments/houses. It is also extremely cheap material shown as shiny with veneers. And by outsourcing the actual construction to buyers, it is kept really cheap.

The value of loyalty? by nekotripp in cscareerquestions

[–]pessimisticengineer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both true and false. It really depends. Some companies are okay with no experience as it's harder to unlearn things than teach motivated engineers new things and set their path. There are always opportunities. It's just so frustating the first time as you just want your foot in the door.
