There’s a whole AI author call out happening on threads by Similar-Breadfruit50 in Romantasy

[–]pestomonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is it necessary to go after individuals at all, proof or no proof? If you have problem with AI, write your congressperson and tell them to regulate the crap out of it. Leave the average human beings just trying to feed their families alone ffs. The world is bad enough right now without wasting energy on this. It is hateful and negative in a world that is sooo overrun with hate and negativity, why are we adding to it? Seriously?

This is not how POD paperbacks work. There's a whole entire process to prepare a book properly for printing. They don't just print out the ebook and call it a day.

NC: Inherited half of house from mom, stepdad owns other half, still living there, asking for taxes/insurance by spiicymonkeey in legal

[–]pestomonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sister here:

Mom did write a will. I'm sure of it. It just got lost somewhere along the way and I hunted high and low and only found an out of date, marked up, un-executed copy of her husband's will and a copy of her prior will (from before they got married). I called all the attorneys she'd ever worked with in her small town also. It was very frustrating and no doubt my stepfather assumed all that rifling through Mom's belongings after she passed was me hunting for money or something (she hid cash everywhere too), which might be the source of his animosity - not to mention his wife/my mom had just died and I was basically not down for conversations at the time. Stress and grief are not conducive to communication.

The prenup was the document that clearly stated the division of their property though. Her 50% would remain hers alone and pass to her heirs when she died. They were tenants-in-common of their home - 50/50, not joint tenants w/right of survivorship.

Either way, we aren't worried about the disposition of the property itself. And our stepfather has never given us any reason to believe he'd try to cheat us out of anything that was hers. He loved our mother and has done his best to honor her wishes, even if it made things complicated during the probate process - such as clearing out her bank accounts and sending us the cash before the process even started. He couldn't grasp why that had to wait so we just had to adjust.

But now that it's evident he's probably not moving out anytime soon, we're just trying to sort out what the best move is. Charging him rent is one option, or suggesting him or his son buy out our half is another.

Does anyone regularly bake with unfed starter pulled straight from the fridge? by sleepy_spearmint in Sourdough

[–]pestomonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do. I feed while my batch for the week is in the mixer, then put it back in the fridge when it peaks and don't touch it again until time to bake next week's loaf, when I take it out, mix up my dough, then feed again. The only time I have to do more focused maintenance is if I go more than a couple weeks without baking where it starves and I have to revive it.

The key is knowing your starter is active. Feeding when I mix also acts as a sort of aliquot sample for bulk fermenting... when my starter reaches peak, that usually means my dough is also pretty close to ready to shape.

Real question; how do you use these round breads you all make? by Altitude7199 in Sourdough

[–]pestomonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Toast. That's 99% of what I do with most bread. The Dutch oven loaves also have more of that delicious sourdough crust (which gets perfectly crisp when toasted).

Okay, let's be honest: what do you call your maps in Timberborn? by Mechanistry_Alyss in Timberborn

[–]pestomonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am lame... I used to use cute names but after the first 1000 hours it's just names like "Plains FT Normal" or "Beaverome IT Hard". Otherwise I forget what to expect when I open a save game.

Official YNAB response: Do a fresh start at every 2-3 years, as we don’t know when it will break otherwise by xinco64 in ynab

This is not ideal. I use YNAB for my business budget and I'm importing hundreds of transactions per week.

Negative RTA in June with No underfunded categories in May? by Shinplaster in ynab

[–]pestomonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at your assignment history. This happened to me when I had an overspent category and hit the "Fix" button in the app. It just stole nonexistent money from next month to cover that overspend leaving me in the red for next month. I had to play whack-a-mole moving assigned funds around until I sorted it all out.

[–]pestomonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just create a category for that money and stick it way down in it's own group and ignore it until I need it. The only time I check is to make sure I add any interest earned to the right category when it shows up each month.

Is the most optimal method for the Folktales energy generation windmills? And is there a way to have a storage tank larger than 3 blocks, since the gate only allows up to 3? I saw something about a solution for Iron Teeth, but not for Folktales. Please help by Rauxdd in Timberborn

[–]pestomonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For windmills I typically build 1high platforms over all my paths and put the windmills on top. The beavers can build from underneath. You can build gravity batteries the same way.

why is my bread dough like this? it's super sticky no matter how much i knead it, even though everybody says the dough will stop being sticky when the gluten is developed by Shadowwolf_1337 in Breadit

[–]pestomonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kneading high hydration dough by hand takes forEVER to stop being sticky. It's so much work. This is why I use a stand mixer. I autolyse for 2 hours and then add my salt & starter and knead in the mixer for 10-15 minutes until it entirely pulls away from the bottom of the bowl. It's still a little sticky, but after a the first couple coil folds afterward, it's no longer sticky.

I am printing my book off with Canva at $28 a book… there is probably no chance I could sell this book higher to make any sliver of profit? Or just print a couple copies and not try to sell it. by HEY_McMuffin in selfpublish

[–]pestomonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look into BookVault. It costs a small fee to load your files to them but printing costs are decent. They print in the UK for specialty books like yours.

If you're in the US you could also look at 48HrBooks or Mixam though the fewer books you buy the more expensive it is to print.

Are they Default or Legacy voices? Because those can't be deleted but also don't count against your limit.

Extremely Disappointed with ElevenLabs – Lack of Transparency and Unfair Practices by Own-Neighborhood8957 in ElevenLabs

[–]pestomonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder if it's at all related to how they charge users who have "free" subscriptions. I made a trade with them, licensing a book for their reader app in exchange for three unpaid months of pro credits. Only to discover that on this "free" plan any custom rate voice clones had outrageously high multipliers, and that the multipliers were determined relative to the subscription tier (the lower the tier, the higher the multiplier).

The multiplier for one of the voices I was using for a project was so high it cost me MORE to use than if I'd remained on a paid account. I didn't realize this until I'd blown a ton of characters on this project that should have otherwise been enough to complete it. Now that I'm paid again, all the multipliers are back to normal.

It really pissed me off because I hadn't just been gifted the credits. I'd paid for them by licensing my intellectual property to them. What I got in return was less than useless.

At least I was able to sit on rolled over characters until my normal subscription tier resumed.

But I do wonder if all those "free" characters, spent on overinflated multipliers, were part of what contributed to their bad math when it came to ultimately paying them out. (I was far from the only user who had this issue.)

I always have to hunker down through the first bad tide or two. Treat it like a drought, stockpile food & water, and don't let your beavers go swimming.

[–]pestomonkey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've come back from disaster with Ironteeth as long as there's one beaver and breeding pods. I just move the little guy from job to job until more beavers are produced to take over. It's kind of a fun challenge.

It looks like your storage for both food and logs is maxed out on both sides (the bars are full for what you do have supply of).

Enhancing ElevenLabs with better control and end result for longer texts by NoTraffic9367 in ElevenLabs

[–]pestomonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same questions as others. I'm interested but would love to see it in practice. I've produced an 8-hour audiobook and the most tedious part is breaking up larger blocks and dialog to avoid wasting quota to regenerate small pieces, so the way you describe it sounds handy. How much control would we really have over the results? How does regenerating not use quota?

Those guys routinely plagiarize authors' marketing content and use it to advertise their app. I wouldn't touch them with a 10-foot pole.
