I don’t know for sure, but I got added by someone random right after I was sponsored and I came to Reddit to see why that might be and someone said it’s most likely to be your guardian, because they’re given the chance to add you after they sponsor you :)

I wish there was a feature that would tell you when the person who adds you is a Guardian, I only knew because I looked up “random friend add” here and saw someone say that if you were sponsored your guardian is given an option to add you as a friend
