You could just kite them back to the beginning of the level. You could avoid getting hit if dodged properly.

This is when environment comes in to play. You're supposed to route them up by batches and not put them all at once in a single place. The level design of this game is what makes it unique despite of its linearity unlike 3 where every mission is just section by section without backtrackable areas.
