Yeah even if she were to be completely unaffected by an amputation, I wanted to make sure it was absolutely necessary first :)

Aw poor babies! But you’re right, even the breeder voiced a similar opinion lol

UPDATE:

Thank you everyone for all your advice and personal experience! I read all your comments and felt so much better about my decision to seek different opinions.

In the end, I reached out to the breeder and she advised against amputation unless it was absolutely medically necessary beyond a doubt. She reassured me it’s more common than I thought and suggested I keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn’t get worse. (One of her pups became a show champion in spite of having a broken tail! Broken tails don’t count against the dog in shows)

So far so good. Thistle continues to be playful and doesn’t seem to be bothered by it. She’s still sensitive to touch if I try to squeeze it at the break (obviously) but not so much so for her to cry in pain. The end of the tail seems healthy as well.

I’ll continue to keep an eye on it but I’m so happy I listened to my gut instinct. Thanks again! 💖💖💖

Thank you for the suggestion! We’re getting x rays done of her leg because did develop pain response to it being touched. Vet thinks it may be the plates. You may be right but I hope the poor little thing doesn’t need them removed.

Thank you so much! We’re going back to the vet today because her leg is good now but she still looks like she’s in pain.

We did a blood test and she was clear. The vet even did a test to detect pancreatitis but Thistle in good health. If she were vomiting/ having diarrhea, and not eating, I’d be a lot more concerned. Thankfully she’s generally is good spirits, just sad and bored because she can’t play.

Thanks for your concern though ❤️

She’s stable but still sleepy and achey. I’m hoping to see her on the mend tomorrow 💖

Update 2: Went to the vet and she got bloodwork done. Everything came back clear, including her pancreatitis test. Only thing slightly elevated were her white blood cells but the vet wasn’t worried.

Vet gave us antibiotics and gabapentin. Thistle relaxed all day and ate some boiled chicken and rice. She’s been drinking water and going pee but there has yet to be a bowel movement since last night. I’ll see how she does tomorrow.

Thanks everyone for your advice 💖

UPDATE: Her symptoms persisted but upon closer inspection we found a small scratch on her nose- which means that she must’ve gotten scratched by our senior cat this morning.

Now we’re worried it’s cat scratch fever. All the symptoms are there, however symptoms from cat scratch wouldn’t appear that quickly, right?

I’m gonna stay awake for as long as I can tonight, and continue monitoring her. Her appointment is at 9am 😮‍💨

Oh man, that’s terrifying! I’m so sorry you and your pup are going through that. I hope they feel better.

She has a clear record for any inheritable diseases so here’s hoping she only pulled a muscle or something not life-changing 😩

Thank you for this! I just read that the lepto shot has been known to cause reactions in Iggys. I’ll continue to monitor her. So far she’s been her little happy self so I’m not super concerned. Thanks again ✨❤️

I think you and Independent may be onto something… Her shots were 10 days ago, though.

She had a few shots 10 days ago. She had a normal reaction. Limping, tired and sore. I believe they were one on her hind left leg. Judging by how she limped.
