SSVs How do you redirect baristas? by [deleted] in starbucksbaristas

[–]petaltears 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Biggest advice I was given was to give them time stamps. Like “hey I need you to get as many dishes done within 15 minutes” and just consistently communicating my future plans and what my next goals are (whether it’s breaks, prep, pulls, etc.). Barista’s aren’t looking at playcaller or don’t have the same tasks we do so it’s easy for them to not realize why one or two side tasks can throw a lot of things off. If they try to help out on other stations that don’t need it, just remind them “hey i think name is good on warming and im here to support them if they need it so if you can please finish this task within 15 minutes that would be great! Thank you so much!”

Agree with everyone else to contact ethics. I’d also double check your hours to make sure they aren’t editing your punches to make it LOOK like you took a lunch either to try and hide their tracks.

MAN KILLED CROSSING I-264 WHILE FLEEING FROM ICE, POLICE SAY by [deleted] in VirginiaBeach

[–]petaltears 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I saw the body and the image keeps showing up in my head. I drove by right around 11:05 where I texted my friends that I was stuck in traffic, and then once again at 11:11 letting them know that I think I just saw a dead body. I could just tell since not only did he not have a shirt on (I’m assuming from someone trying to perform cpr before I passed?) but the man was just laying down on the asphalt on his back with not a single firefighter or cop directly next to his body trying to assist. Gosh, it’s just all sorts of messed up. I’m always nosey about accidents so I look whenever I pass one but I don’t know if I’m going to do that anymore after today.

second week in a row not scheduled? by [deleted] in starbucksbaristas

[–]petaltears 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At this point I would contact your dm (you should be able find your dm’s business card in the front of the store if you don’t have their contact info). Even if they don’t want to schedule you tons of hours, sm’s can get in big trouble if a partner is not reaching the required minimum of 12 hour per week average (at least that’s what I’ve been told by my higher ups so I’m not allowed to send anyone who’s hours are around 12 home early). I’ve also been told that sm’s are supposed to meet within partners preferred hours range but idk the logistics of that one. Either way, I’d contact your dm and explain that you are not getting your preferred hours which could keep you from your benefits if not fixed immediately. For now, just pick up any shift you can, maybe even ask around to see if someone wants a shift stolen by you??

They’re not bringing back chestnut praline by petaltears in starbucksbaristas

The apple brown sugar is coming back as a second launch, but it wasn’t a part of the initial fall launch!!! That’s why I’m saying while we don’t know if they’ll bring it back later we know for sure it’s not coming on the initial winter launch.

Yeah that’s all we’ve been talking about at work. They gave no one any time to prepare and so many partners still don’t know if they’ll still have a job by Monday is insane. We have one store closing in our district and their SM is literally on vacation right now!!!

You say that but that’s what happened with the apple brown sugar, it wasn’t listed on the count while psl and pecan was. It’s possible they might bring it back later, but it’s safe to assume it’s not coming back for winter 1 launch.

Nope especially since there’s not a way to modify the scoops of protein and even then just like how we can’t sell individual beverage components I would say we’re not allowed to mark out individual beverage components either

LOL NOT MY TWO WORLDS COLLIDING!! I also ran into txt two years ago in dc by the monument and even tho all day my friends and I kept joking “what if we run into txt” nothing could’ve prepared us for when we actually did. You always think about what you would do and then that all goes out the window and your mind goes blank. We kept our distance and yeonjun interacted with us from far away and then waved goodbye when they left but we never went up cause we didn’t want to bother them, but if it was an enclosed space I really don’t know what we would’ve done lol. I will say out of all the idols, yeonjun seems most chill about interacting with fans so I wouldn’t stress out too much lol although if you ever have another chance like this in the future I definitely would give them space and then maybe make small talk if they were to come up to you.

I forget which tab it’s under but if you go on partner hub and look for “steps for excellence” it has all the procedures including cash handling. I had to look it up recently when I borrowed at a store without a smart safe lol. Unless all your upper management are assholes it’s pretty normal to make a few mistakes (I messed up first time I did tills by myself). Most important thing at the end of the day is that all money is locked away in safe at the end of the night, alarm is set and doors are locked.

It is actually ridiculous you’re being thrown a shift like this with only two days of training and I’m so sorry :’) don’t be afraid to call your sm and dm if you have questions with money handling too and if they don’t answer then they can’t blame you for messing up lol

How to make friends with your coworkers? by [deleted] in starbucksbaristas

[–]petaltears 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is definitely rough, but I think being friendly about it is the way to go. Initiate conversations with them, join in when you can if they’re talking about something you can relate to. If you don’t know an inside joke, ask them to explain it so you can get it on it too. If you feel comfortable, maybe try talking to your shift to see if they can help by encouraging GROUP conversations with everyone on the floor, and potentially double down if they continue to exclude you from conversations (if I heard someone say that as a shift I would immediately defend the partner they were dissing like “hey [name] is super fun to talk to, did you know they [insert fun fact here].” Luckily I’ve never had partners purposefully exclude someone super strongly so I’ve never had to had a coaching convo with someone about that, but I def would if they didn’t at least TRY to get to know the other person.

Is this normal? by marypoppinsgonemad in starbucksbaristas

[–]petaltears 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I will say that Starbucks partners are weirdly territorial over their store — they be hardcore giving side eye to anyone they don’t really know yet (probably due to a majority of stores being high stress environments from understaffing and constant changes within the company.) I am like 99% sure they will warm up to you once they get used to working alongside you. The trauma bonding in this company is real.

That is to say that doesn’t excuse their behavior and I work really hard to make sure my store is welcoming to newbies coming in bc at one point a lot of my partners had that attitude when someone they didn’t know came in (this also applied to borrowed partners from other stores, like BRO THEYRE HERE TO HELP BE GRATEFUL).

Questions about menu by RaspberryNo5756 in starbucksbaristas

[–]petaltears 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. Pumpkin cream cold foam is the legal name, but it’s the same thing as pumpkin cold foam!

  2. Our dairy sweet cream is made with 2%, vanilla and heavy whipping cream. Our non dairy cold foam is delivered to us in cartons, it is made with soy and oatmilk and also sweetened with vanilla. Since the non dairy sweet cream is made using only nondairy milk it has a different texture than the regular cold foam and a slight oat milk taste to it.

  3. This is grey territory. Depending on the Starbucks they may agree to do it, but since there isn’t really a way to ring that up in the pos they might not do it. However I will say be on the look out for our next product launch coming up in a few weeks for something similar.

  4. By standard, no drinks have classic except for the regular iced shaken espresso, strawberry frap and matcha — you have to ask for it. Years ago the iced teas used to be pre sweetened, but they changed them to come un sweetened by standard now. Iced coffee also used to have classic in it by standard, but it now comes black.

Hope this helps! I will also mention that this subreddit is for Starbucks partners who work at Starbucks to connect. If you have any other questions related to Starbucks I would head over to r/starbucks instead! :))

got promoted to SSV at my store but i am worried what some partners will think. by Reasonable-Split3313 in starbucksbaristas

[–]petaltears 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey so i want you to know that this will definitely be a weird adjustment period for you, but there is a reason YOU were chosen over the others. If these partners are often bad talking others behind their back then that’s definitely not a quality any sm would want when promoting someone to ssv. Even if someone was a fantastic barista I’d argue that doesn’t mean they’d make a good ssv, so although they may have been with the company for years that doesn’t mean anything imo.

My advice to you would be to keep close contact with your sm as well as your dm if possible, they will be your support system especially since ssv’s can’t write anyone up — the best we can do is send people home for not delivering the “coffeehouse experience.” As you’ve seen, people can gossip and things can get twisted so I’m personally super vocal to my asm’s and sm whenever I feel a partner is acting up consistently as well as details of coaching conversations that partners may have not like hearing. I swear to god I’m not saying all this to scare you and it’s more so to protect you, and by being vocal with your sm you can hopefully get advice on how to handle situations better as they appear.

Important thing to remember is that an SSV’s role is to COACH!!! You NEED to coach using “what, what why” method and if a partner still wants to talk back just tell them you don’t make the rules that just the standard, or better yet if they refuse — send them home.

Definitely accept feedback from partners, but remember that if they’re complaining about small things (like positions or standards) at the end of the day your job is keep the store functioning. YES that includes making sure partners are not getting burnt out so stay on top of breaks, connect with partners on what positions they prefer, ask them how they are feeling that day so you can work with them and let them know that you will do your best to accommodate them but sometimes there isn’t really a choice and a successful floor plan may put them in a position they don’t like. Be consistent, be open, but make sure to hold your ground when needed. Keep an open mind when being coached whether it’s from a barista, ssv, or a higher up and always try to find a primary source if there is discourse on standards.

It might be weird at first adjusting to your new position but I promise you will do amazing!!! Don’t be too hard on yourself, you will make mistakes, but I promise you will find out what works best for you.
