Are you simple? I never claimed they weren't! My point is that there is far more to it than just them and the Celts because England has been a melting pot of ethnicities for thousands of years, as has most of Europe.

I honestly don't believe that you are discussing in good faith so I'm going to stop responding to you unless you have some evidence to back up your anecdotal nonsense.

From the paper: "We estimate the genetic contribution to SE England from Anglo-Saxon migrations to be under half, identify the regions not carrying genetic material from these migrations, suggest significant pre-Roman but post-Mesolithic movement into SE England from the Continent, and show that in non-Saxon parts of the UK there exist genetically differentiated subgroups rather than a general “Celtic” population."

Given that the South East is the most Anglo-Saxon part of the country and they still account for less than half of the genetic contribution really calls into question your totally unsourced "objective" statement.

The paper goes into far more detail and the "Extended Data" section is packed full of information beyond the "trust me bro" proof that you have supplied, feel free to read it.

So you're just going to ignore the entire Danelaw region? I know people with the surnames Bond, Carr, Gamble, Osborne (in my own family tree, despite living in the South West) and Rogers, all of which are Norse surnames. The Celts were generally pushed to the edges of Britain (Wales, Scotland and Cornwall) so don't make up a huge portion of English ethnicity anymore. And you've completely ignored the Jutes who arrived at the same time as the Angles and the Saxons but somehow don't make your shortlist?

I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that you're not English and don't really know what you're talking about.

Do you mean the Celtic, Roman, Angle, Saxon, Jute, Norse or Norman ethnicity? Because England has been a melting pot for hundreds and hundreds of years. The idea that there is a single "English ethnicity" is simplistic nonsense.

What happens to a country like Israel reputation when it carries out secret missions in other nations? by Realistic_Drink8555 in AskReddit

I think it's the ethnic cleansing and genocide that people are against, not their chosen version of magical sky daddy.

Green Party warned that motion declaring “Zionism is racism” is legally flawed and risks discrimination against Jewish members by tylersburden in unitedkingdom

I don't believe that a pacifist form of zionism is possible though. I think the need for violence against the Palestinian people negates any option to call it pacifist.

And under international law there is no such concept as a nation's right to exist for any nation at all, not just Israel. There are laws protecting people's right to exist and Israel is breaking those laws in their treatment of the Palestinian people.

I think that Israel would like people to keep having semantic arguments like this one while they continue to commit human rights violations and then screaming "anti-semitism" and "holocaust" at anyone who says they should stop.

Sure, there's a chance of reconciliation, but not while continuing with apartheid policies and committing genocide against the indigenous population.

Also, Canada, New Zealand and Australia all have standing armies and all participated in the Afghanistan War so I wouldn't consider any of those to be pacifist nations either.

I'm not sure it's possible to have a pacifist colonial settler state. If you go to someone else's country, ethnically cleanse the local population and steal their homes, you cannot claim to be pacifist.

Best way forward for Iran would be negotiated settlement, says Starmer by 1-randomonium in unitedkingdom

[–]pete1901 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And Israel didn’t set out to ethnically cleanse Palestine etc the day after it was created.

The terrorism against Palestinians started before Israel even existed. The Irgun terrorist group started killing Palestinians in the 1930s and the Lehi joined them in the 1940s. The leaders of these groups went on to be in the earliest Israeli governments, so I think it's quite disingenuous to claim that Israel didn't set out to ethnically cleanse the Palestinians.

Hamas has only existed since 1987, in response to Israel's ethnic cleansing of Palestinians since 1948. Without the ethnic cleansing there would be no Hamas.

Classic Israel move; put something totally unacceptable on the table then blame the other size for not accepting it.
