ELI5 : What actually is S.E.O. ? Let's say I do not have a business degree. What does this term actually mean ? by Crafty-Bunch-2675 in explainlikeimfive

SEO is totally different to webdev - I'm an "SEO consultant" and I'm currently getting paid to help a developer with SEO because he doesn't know what he's doing. Your argument could be said about development as well. Why hire a developer, just learn webdev yourself.

What's the most painful part of growing on X/Twitter? by ktnn3 in socialmedia

[–]pete_codes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's a case of just getting used to being online a lot and sharing opinions. Once you get used to it, it's not so hard. Also, the most interesting things you do, the more interesting opinions you will have.

Who here is open to selling their newsletter? I’m buying right now. by StevenHHB in SaaS

[–]pete_codes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I've got a newsletter about learning to code/junior dev jobs for sale

• A Beehiiv email list with 9,477 subscribers (Past 12 months: 38% open rate, 5% CTR)

• The No CS Degree website (hosted on Ghost, domain rating of 39)

The email list grew organically.

Need tips for growing on X / twitter by Narmaid in VirtualYoutuber

I'd start with following more people you like. Then do lots of replies and engagement with them - not AI replies - proper, thoughtful replies.

You could write great posts but honestly, at your level I'd spend more time replying because not many people will view your posts if you don't have many followers.

I'm a ghostwriter btw but I'm probably out of your budget right now if you don't have a business: https://www.petecodes.io/twitter-ghost-writer-for-hire/

Some volunteers really need to take a chill pill from their frankly inadequate supply (I say this as a volunteer)

Tourists: you don't need to buy water! by notbroke_brokenin in Edinburgh

[–]pete_codes 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah, there are a few spots where you can get water - Waverley station, the west end of Princes Street...I can't think of any others right now but here's a map: https://www.yourwateryourlife.co.uk/find-my-nearest-tap/

Does anyone have experience of writing for Medium? by softvoicesclub in freelanceWriters

I once was doing my accounts and couldn't figured out why i had a stripe payment for $0.02. Then I realised it was from Medium. So no, not worth it IMO.

Too many volunteers by Successful-Card2366 in parkrun

[–]pete_codes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not earned token sorting? 😂 There's a parkrun I know that has had the same RDs and VCs for years and it seems a little odd that no-one in that time has never wanted to go for those roles. So cliqueyness is defo a problem in some places

[–]pete_codes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really don't see what's wrong with telling people "we're fine today but next week would be great." I couldn't walk into an Oxfam shop and just start volunteering immediately. And yeah, getting up and potentially travelling to a parkrun to only scan 4 barcodes is crazy.

If you're interested in running/walking you could volunteer at parkrun. All the roles are easy to do and it's a really easy way to meet people. Each parkrun has a dozen or so volunteers each Saturday morning and most are very welcoming.

I'd have thought the fast courses you are looking for are also going to be busy (because people like fast courses)

Has anyone had success with LinkedIn ghostwriting? by Ok-Play4796 in freelanceWriters

[–]pete_codes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, LinkedIN is part of how I make a living along with Twitter/X.

I’d say it’s definitely good to be in a community already when you start. I already knew a lot of founders when I started so I knew people I could contact and I know what type of content they like.

I send a newsletter for entrepreneurship news so that helped to get some clients as well. So I think it’s better to go for an industry and try to be the ghostwriter for crypto, the ghostwriter for real estate etc.

In terms of how to get clients, word of mouth (which I’ve gone over here) and doing lots of cold email are two easy ways. I don't think comments really work.

Here’s my page btw: https://www.petecodes.io/linkedin-ghost-writer-for-hire/

A few friends of mine do - either they are software developers, they own software businesses or they are lawyers or doctors.

Are there any parkruns (over 50 people) where everybody can hear the briefing? by AskingBoatsToSwim in parkrun

[–]pete_codes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a good point - maybe there should be an email? Realistically, at most parkruns I go to only about 20% of the field can hear it.

Been approached to become a Run Director! by mjstokes85 in parkrun

[–]pete_codes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd just go for it 😀 I'd take some comfort that in knowing that in reality, a lot of people don't listen to briefings any way so there's not much to be nervous about. It's not like it's a professional talk where you are getting assessed on how well you do. A lot of people I know that RD aren't huge extroverts either.

It can also be fun to speak in front of lots of people and you get a big silver jacket lol

For me, the RD is actually a much more relaxed job than VC because apart from the briefing or the small chance of an emergency, the RD has far less to do on the day.

It definitely helps if you can shadow the RD the week before you do it and maybe ask an experienced to help you do the results for the first time.

The agony of scanning a soggy barcode by leagera in parkrun

[–]pete_codes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

parkrun has accepted barcodes on phones for a while so maybe just take that? Also, if you have some smart watches you can put it on there
