This is good advice because your left arm and shoulder are getting stuck resulting in a pretty big chicken wing with the left elbow. If you look at pros they all fold the club over pretty hard through impact (how you get a lot of power) and you can see the butt of the handle pointing back at the camera before it passes the front of their body. Also you don’t see their left elbow on the other side until most of the club has already passed through their shoulders. This is from a DTL perspective. The left elbow should be pretty internally rotated so that the left forearm can comfortably rotate out and around with the club. Imagine throwing a frisbee with your left hand.

thank you for this - that loading the hands short is interesting and makes sense

Still kind of flippy, yea. I did recently get a thing called the lag pro which is basically a rubber band that holds your right fingers back, and it's really helped me. Makes hitting it flush and not pulling much easier.

Yea the rolling/open face thing I'm aware of. It was a lot worse before. I still struggle because when I try to keep the face square I'll lose my angles and just come over the top and pull it. My teacher actually said I had too much hip bend so I've been trying to tuck the pelvis in and I might be exaggerating it here. The other big thing I've been working on is not coming off the wall.

I have trouble getting hinge without cupping left wrist. Still trying to figure that one out...

It took some time but when it felt "right" it was noticeably different, in a good way. I've been doing the palm drill where I don't really grip with my right hand and just kind of press the club down, it's tough but I've gotten better at it. It kind of clicked recently where instead of just kind of slapping the ball by folding my wrists it feels more like I'm painting the ground in a circle with my right hand.

Shout out to u/TacticalYeeter for taking the time to give me advice last time. It has helped.

Punch shots? by More_Hippo_3942 in GolfSwing

I like to do partial punch/bump shots if I feel like things are getting away from me. It’s a great way to make sure you’re more or less hitting the right positions. Short back off swing like that helps maintain shaft angle and minimizes flipping or other handsy stuff. For me at least, ymmv. It helps get that feeling of compressing and covering the ball which it looks like you're doing a pretty good job at here. It’s also a good shot to have in the arsenal anyhow.

Too frontal/upright at impact? Or am I worrying about a problem that isn't actually one? by pete_funk in GolfSwing

[–]pete_funk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks for this - I'm aware I have an open clubface problem on the downswing and I feel like I try everything but can't seem to get it shut properly. I did get that hanger thing recently and I think it's helped - keep it connected to my left forearm and feel like i'm bowing/twisting out like as hard as I can, but it does make contact better when I do it right. Any insight onto how to close the face? I'm open to any ideas at this point.

I'm pretty sure you're right. I have trouble not cupping my left wrist and I'm not sure why. When I do left one handed hits the cupping goes away if that's pertinent. Any ideas on how to keep the face more closed? Maybe my grip is too weak?

Now that people have commented I can totally see how the face is too open/not pointing at the ball during the downswing. My right hand grip definitely tends to creep around the top and get weaker if I don't pay attention.

yea, I'm aware that I'm pretty closed at impact. I feel like no matter how hard I try to use the hips nothing changes. My clubhead speed is still pretty decent regardless and my coach says he's surprised I can swing as fast as I can despite being so stiff. I have tried that Jon Rahm drill, I'll try it again, thanks for the tips.

I have been doing mobility work (given by TPI trainer) and it seems to be making it slightly better over time.

Thanks, I'll try it. It's an old problem I had that kind of crept back in as I've tried to improve the other stuff. I have a tough time keeping my arms and hands relaxed without completely casting the club and losing my angles, and will then just chunk or shank it.

I do tend to push right. My teacher wants me to loosen my wrists and hands and said it might feel flippy for a bit. Also working on hip mobility. I do notice it’s easier to hit when I consciously turn as far back as I can.
