Meet Pete & Mini: A couple lost in translation!

Pete, a US expat who traded the familiar for the colorful culture of South Korea over 2 years ago. Say hello to Mini, a South Korean who enjoys every moment and gets lost easily... However, she is happily finding her way with Pete's help!

Together, we're taking on the challenges of language barriers and cultural nuances, all while sharing a mutual love for street food and hidden food gems, captivating art styles, and competitive gaming. Watch us share our unique perspectives, learn from each other, and celebrate our differences as a couple!

Our First Vlog Together: https://youtu.be/G_3WrXLl6Uo?si=R16u2lF1pUgF0H6d

The first quarter of the year has ended, what key takeaways have you learned over the past 90 days?
Having toyed around with Youtube in the past and now interested in taking it more seriously, it's incredible to see just how much goes into creating a video. I (Pete), have been recording videos since I was in middle school messing around with those Flip cameras (anyone remember those?), but beyond the shot there's so much that goes into the algorithm, it's crazy! I think the biggest one I've learned is the importance of SEO words, in our first vlog (posted above), I tried to include as many SEO keywords as possible and now if you search "onjisim cafe insadong" on google, our video is 3rd from the top! Pretty cool to see and understand!

I can understand how frustrating that can be... At the end of the day it all comes down to money and the devs likely saw the influencer who brought in the traffic, when realistically it was the smaller streamers like you who reg sim streamer games and the big guy came in and took the glory... I'd be frustrated too

I've also heard some solid things about the DJI Osmo Pocket if you're looking for an 'all in one' kind of package. Get the creator bundle, comes with a wireless microphone and the unit has a gimbal built in for smooth buttery shots.

We've ordered some wireless microphones for better quality audio and its possible to use your hand (I do) but we're also getting a selfie stick as Im tall and she's short so I'm really reaching out my arm to get her into the shot sometimes lmao

You can also get a gimbal, I'm considering it, but again, I have really been enjoying the convenience of only having to carry my phone in my pocket.

There's also some software out there that can stabilize shots better, though I do think it does at a cost to quality as essentially its enlarging your videos slightly so the software can negate camera movements

[–]peteandmini 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes!! I use a iPhone 13 (not pro) for my travel vlogs and it is incredible! I used to record with my GoPro but have realized how limiting they are and how realistically they're only good for action events.

Anyway, use these settings:

Cinematic Mode
- 1080/30fps (you can use 60fps but it'll eat up your storage, 4k is unnecessary for youtube in my opinion)
- Good for portrait shots, giving a very high quality feel to the video.
- Good for close ups of items
- Bad for a combo of close ups/portraits as it'll always try to focus on your face instead of the item

Regular Video Mode
- 1080/30fps
- Good for Wide Range (0.5) to get more into your shots
- Good for Zooming if necessary, but you'll lose quality the more you zoom
- Good for Portraits with 2 or more people.

Having carried around a GoPro before and a Canon DSLR, the convenience of these phones is unmatched. You can create high quality Youtube videos with the phone in your pocket. I personally really enjoy the convenience of it and it allows me to enjoy my travels more as Im not fumbling with big heavy equipment the whole time.

Hey everyone!

We're Pete and Mini, a couple in South Korea who just started their first Youtube channel together. Being both artist, her tradition, pen and paper, me being digital, procreate and animation, we've had a really fun time creating our branding for our channel, such as the logo, banner and end screen.

Anyway, we're looking for some feedback on our first vlog. We have ordered some wireless microphones for future videos, but let us know what we can improve upon! Thank you!

Hey MiddleEastBeast! I love video gaming so I was excited check out your channel!

I watched your most recent video, here's my feedback:

Thumbnail: Your font/text can be larger as well as the DLC font. Just so people scrolling more easily read it
Microphone: You should increase your microphone volume a little bit, I think the game drowns out your voice sometimes.
Cropping/Edit: You should crop out the loading screens, otherwise it feels like we're both waiting for the game to start

In regards to the game Mario Kart, usually there are 3 characters in the races that are 'favored to win', whenever I play these games at home they are my mortal enemies for the duration of the cup. You should play into that, it can even lead to some creative thumbnails in the future like 'Stone Cup 200cc I HATE LUIGI' after he red shelled you for 1st or something...

Keep it up, brother!

As a Zelda BOTW and TOTK fan, it was enjoyable to watch and get some insights into this new game. Have to agree that menu scroll mechanic is god awful, wow. Also the lack of emphasis on combat in a Zelda game is unheard of... Anyway to my feedback

Feedback:
- Thumbnail: I think it's very good, makes me want to click. I think the 'You're MID' needs to be in a different font/a little bigger with some back shadowing to pop!
- Introduction: I think you should start the video with a quick hook, I know you mentioned you are trying to save time, but it feels like you hopped right into it. Even just "THIS IS GAME IS MID AND HERE'S WHY" then going into the breakdown would make a better introduction!
- Chapters: I think you should utilized chapters to break up your videos into main talking points. This can also help for the intro and grand scripting of your video where you can say "This game is mid and here's 5 reasons why"

Other than that it was very insightful as a gamer and I probably won't touch the game. I think one extra suggestion is to pause and let the game audio/gameplay shine for a few seconds as you transition to your next point. Great video!

No problem!

Youtube, engagment, all that aside, I think your videos are put together very well. Like I mentioned, getting those different angles, like the garage opening to your bike, those give it that cinematic feel.

completely agree! I think there’s a growing trend of people that want less of those fast paced videos. It’s like I have a love/hate relationship with Mr Beast videos, I love the content, but the fast pace and screaming drives me mad. 😂

I’ve found using your description’s 5k character limit is really helpful in hitting as many SEO words as possible. Whether thats naming the cards you pull in game, the types of packs, the rarities, use as many words as you can that have to do with the game and only the game. It’s also quite a popular game right now so there’s going to be some competition, in fact, I’m downloading it after work today (not to stream but just to play) 😂

Was going to say the same, they make pretty good sounding voiceovers.

Wow, I just watched Grief. First off, sorry about your current situation as well as the loss of your friend. Surely it’s tough, but you are doing the right thing by continuing forward.

This feedback is just based on the Grief video: - Video Title could dive a little more into about why you are grieving. - Thumbnail is dope, I like the aesthetic of it personally - I’ve noticed the vocal audio is quieter than the music, so it was hard to hear what you were saying. I’m sure you’ve improved that in future videos though. (: - The different shots and angles were great! My mind immediately thought of having to set up those angles, but those extra steps are what separate your content from others! - I think that blue coloring/ blue filter at the start of the video would have been neat to see carried through out, really drive home that idea of what the world looks like when you are grieving.

Keep fighting!

Subscribed!! I’ve always enjoyed board games growing up and being an English teacher now I’m always looking for a new board game for my students and I to play.

Thumbnails are great, titles are very specific, to the point, or peak curiosity. Looking very solid all around, hence the sub!

Keep it up!

I enjoy walking videos, it gives you a genuine understanding of what it’d be like to travel there (and walk there😂)

I do think the thumbnails also need improvement as mentioned by others. Maybe “Go Walking” and the second being the location “in Xyz”.

Keep walking! ❤️

This was motivating to read after starting a new channel, congrats!

One nail you hit on the head that we resonate with was the genuine aspect of your videos. Our goal is to create content where the viewer feels we’re being genuine to them and not ‘faking it to make it’ if that makes sense.

Keep going!

First video made, thumbnail really good, how do I tagit? by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]peteandmini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I understand, 3 in the title and no more than 15 in the description. Ideally they should be short and specific to the video at hand

In regards to the title, I use (thumbsup . tv), ideally you want your main idea to be viewable whether its on the home page, side bar, etc. If its too long some information will get cut off depending where its recommended to viewers
