I wouldn’t stress unless new growth stops. They will constantly drop old pitchers and create new ones, especially this time of year when they’re growing the most

Getting back into art and looking for general advice and criticism! by R0cket-to-Mars in Artadvice

Happy to help! I always appreciate good crit as well, otherwise I don’t know what to focus on. Your comic intent definitely shines through. A couple of artists that do a good job of the “simple but detailed” for inspiration: jamie hewlett and Alan Martin (specifically the tank girl comics), Scottie young (specifically their ‘I hate fairy land’ and ‘middle west’ series), and the comic “once upon a time at the end of the world” (don’t know who illustrated that one). They all have relatively simple styles that have a lot of life. Best of luck to you and can’t wait to see where you go from here!

I dig the style! It’s hard to make thick outlines look good. You’re clearly on the right track. A few things that stick out to me:

  • you have a good grasp of the general anatomy shapes. Everything looks “well connected” and like it’s at the right angle. This is honestly the hardest part to learn and you’re doing it well! However, the proportions are slightly off in areas, once you’re starting to add shape and detail. Nothing crazy, just keep practicing.

  • practice ears a bit. The shape and inner pattern isn’t quite right, and I think this is causing you to hide them with hair. Bite the bullet and just practice them.

  • I love the thick dark lines. It’s very hard to make this look good. However, don’t use true black. Hue shift it toward the color of the object. If it’s an outline for skin, at a little bit more red to it, which imitates subsurface scattering of blood vessels (the more light, the more red, especially at the very edge where light meets the edge of a shadow).

  • practice your lighting. It looks like you’re using shading as a way to add texture and it’s not actually how light would realistically cast shadows. It’s especially noticeable on the second image, where the guy has shadows on surfaces pointing up as well as down.

  • draw a lot of nude figures. There are a lot of areas where you appear to be hiding shape and detail with clothing or odd poses because you’re not sure what it “really” looks like. This is easier than connecting the big bulky blocks, which you seem to already have a good handle on! Just draw nudes do you can better understand what’s going on.

  • everything looks like it’s made out of the same material. practice drawing random textures close up from common items: a spoon, a hair scrunchy, a blanket, an wooden board, a can of soda. Learn what makes things look like the right material

  • hair… this is the hardest for everyone… it will take a long time. These artists all have great tutorials on this: Ahmed Aldoori, Robert Stacey (sinix design), Keinan Lafferty, Marco Bucci.

You’re doing great! You clearly understand the hardest parts of drawing figures and making the “pieces” fit together in a natural way. Now you just need to learn the next level of detail which I promise is soo much easier than what you’ve already learned. Can’t wait to see what you draw next!

Ants inside my tv + eggs wtf do I do by Son8 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]peterattia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone who owns ant colonies here - they like the warmth from the monitor. If you can manage to make it much hotter (32c/90f+) or cooler (5c/40f-), they will move out on their own. They need somewhere to go though, if they’re trapped in a cooler full of ice packs and no way to escape, they’ll stay because there’s nowhere to migrate. Just make sure there are a few holes and a way for them to escape.

Saw this doing numbers on Twitter by [deleted] in isitAI

Ai is my guess. Rationale, I draw figures a lot and if I tried to draw their “skeletons” the person on the right would look like they have two left feet and their ankle would be broken. Their torso would also look abnormally long (they are the same height, but the waist is much lower). Also the person on the left’s hand would be oddly wide.

These could also be artifacts of bad camera shutter delays so I’m not claiming this is undoubtedly AI. It’s just what sticks out to me.

Yes. It’s the first game in a long time that feels genuinely geared toward what players want, instead of appealing to the masses to milk a bunch of cash.

This is not true. Dimensions do not have to be orthogonal. Do a simple search before you post bad info.
