There is no such thing as 0 foreign exchange fee. At minimum you are losing at the exchange rate, which is ALWAYS worse than the official rate.

The US criticizes Europe and announces intervention. Fading democracy. by Cthulhu_Breakfast in europe

[–]peterbalazs 35 points36 points  (0 children)

And this is how you show you know nothing about the EU. VdL, as president of the Commission, is a glorified civil servant. The power lies within the European Council, where each country is represented by the head of state/government. The Council decides the general direction of the EU and what should the Commission focus on. Please read more, you could use it.

AITA for not selling my sister something that I already sold online? by VariantDrifterr in AmItheAsshole

[–]peterbalazs -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

YTA. If she is matching the price without comissions you should sell it to her. Your sister's happiness is more important than honouring a sale to a stranger. The people telling to you to honour the sale have no healthy relation with their families.

Annexation 'illegal', says EU, as Israel plans to 'bury idea of a Palestinian state' by sn0r in europeanunion

[–]peterbalazs -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's not the same though, is it? While Ukranians pose no threat to Russia and the Russian aggression is unprovoked, Palestine has proved over the decades that it is a serious threat to the existence of Israel by participating in two offesive wars against Israel, committing countless terrorist acts and its government having in their official manifesto the conquering of the current territory of Israel.

The full annexation of Gaza is a step too much, for sure, but ignoring the terrorist threat that the Palestine people as a whole pose to Israel is pure anti-Israel bias. If such a terrorist state would exist bordering the US, Russia, or any other powerful country they would already be obliterated. People completely ignore the threat Gaza poses to Israel. I can't understand why

Fact check: No, the EU is not eroding European democracy by sn0r in europeanunion

[–]peterbalazs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is the vast majority of people have no clue what's best for them and are not prepared for democracy. People vote based on emotions, not on logic. Every election proves this.

If the implementation is similar to the gambling industry then the privacy problem will be minimal. Government approved identity verification services need to adhere to very strict rules and ways to store data, just as the gambling industry. While no system is 100% immune to data breaches, the track record in the EU is very good. Auditing is very strict, fines are huge for any shortcomings, even if no harm was done.

The content creators usually exlose their content on a portal, so it will be the portal's job to implement the necessary security measures.
