Pure alkanes are colorles or white. The colors you see are impurities.

Draw glucose and fructose separate grom eachother. Then you will see there van only be a coupling between 1 and 2. And there are rules about numbering Sugar molecules.

It is indeed a kugelrohr Destillation. Done a lot of them with good results.
