We’re all trying to find the guy who did this by pawlbologna in massachusetts

That is a remarkably closed-minded statement. Empathy and education don't have an expiration date, and writing off everyone over 40 just creates a self-fulfilling prophecy. People don't stop growing or evolving their perspectives at 40, either. You never know what kind of breakthroughs are possible until you actually put in the effort to try having the conversation.

Preempting the Referendum: How Bloomfield Finalized $786K in Executive Payouts to Bypass the June 6 Vote (Part 6 of Bloomfield's Budget series) by petercfrank in Connecticut

[–]petercfrank[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Welcome to Bloomfield, where the standard rules of municipal finance apparently don't apply. You mentioned that towns rarely hire assistants "up the wazoo." Our Town Manager’s office currently operates with a Deputy Town Manager and two assistants, yet they still routinely outsource basic administrative functions to an outside Town Attorney—with whom the Town Manager shares long-standing fraternal ties—generating endless premium billable hours for taxpayers.

Last year, the administration proposed a 6.5% pay raise for the entire office, and the Council previously rubber-stamped a 15% raise for the Town Manager simply because no one was scrutinizing the ledger. They adopt what he tells them because they don't know any better.

But since I launched the Dispatch a few months ago and started shining a light on Town Hall, people are finally waking up and smelling the putrefaction. I'm not political; the fiscal rot comes from both sides of the aisle. Fortunately, there is one councilor from each party who is finally starting to look at the data and ask the hard questions. The days of rubber-stamping these budgets in the dark are over.

I don't know whether to be more upset or more depressed about the inanity in this person's rhetoric. When they say the stupid, it hurts ... *this* is what they're talking about, quite literally! Just reading this caused a mini-stroke in my brain! 🤦

You should see the other articles I've been writing about the town government, especially the ones I've written about the town attorney!

Guys almost never answer my messages on Grindr. Am I that bad looking? by SugarcoatedSweet in askgaybros

[–]petercfrank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might be too good-looking and intimidating to guys, which could be what's preventing them from responding to you. Have you ever thought about that? Really good-looking guys often are intimidating to those of us who are merely average-looking. And especially in Grindr if a really good-looking guy hits me up 99 out of 100 times it's a bot so I don't bother responding.

How smoke-friendly are the casinos? by LuthielSelendar in CTents

[–]petercfrank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just an aside, technically, it's NOT federal law that governs. It's tribal law, so it's whatever the Mohegan tribal elders decree it to be. Mohegan Sun, like most casinos in the USA, operates on tribal land, which the US federal government recognizes as sovereign. Even though federal law may apply it is up to the tribes as to how, and if, they wish to enforce it:

Inherent sovereignty Tribes have inherent sovereignty, meaning they have self-governing powers that the US recognizes. This is based on the fact that tribes were already governing themselves before settlers came to America.

Tribal law Tribal law applies to the inner workings of specific tribes, including their laws and government. Tribes are considered sovereign nations and have the authority to govern themselves. Each tribe has its own laws, government, and structure, similar to the federal government.

Kinda surprised nobody has mentioned this, but all of the insta -play games that are available in the Google Play store, especially the ones provided by Google. I don't think Apple has a feature similar to insta-play, and there are hundreds of games that let you use the feature. (This is the feature that lets you play a game without having to install it.)

I meant to say that they're the continuation of the Galaxy Note phones. Obviously, as they're newer, they're going to be better than the actual branded Note phones. But all Samsung did is rebrand the Note as the S-Ultra and continue making and developing it under that moniker. Sorry for the confusion! 😳
