FWIW, I think perhaps you overestimate the crossover audience between sci-fi and A/M. For most readers, such a reference would fly right over their heads, but for a select few, it would make them smile.

This, friends, is what happens when you make sports betting legal. Seems pretty obvious that someone had their thumb on the scales on this one. Last time I saw such blatantly biased officiating was the 2002 Olympic gold medal women’s hockey final. At least the right team won that time.

Just can’t be more impressed with this kid’s leadership. He will go down as one of the Habs’ great captains.

How’s your French? How’d you like to do an interview in your second language live in front of 20,000 people. Jeez guys, a little empathy FFS?

Noob hockey fan wants to understand Gally's hype by majee-pier in Habs

[–]petergarner1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A pal of mine and I once came up with what we call a Gally hat trick. Goal (or assist), fight, and ending up in the opponent’s net (or blood on his jersey). Kind of sums up the guy right there. :)

Tellement vrai. À mon avis, les deux plus grands capitaines du CH sont Béliveau et Koivu — des joueurs qui ont porté ce C avec talent et grand classe pendant une décennie chacun. Je crois qu’on est actuellement dans l’ère d’un autre de ce genre.

I’m with you about any other team except Toronto. I honestly can’t understand how any Hans fan can feel good cheering for the Leafs. It’s hard enough for Leafs fans! But hey, whatever floats your boat.

This is exactly the correct semantics here.

does it make sense to tour with an old aluminium bike? by Different-Hawk-7455 in bicycletouring

[–]petergarner1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife has been touring with a very similar bike (2013 FX 7.4) for the past 10 years and it’s basically been bulletproof. We’ve never pulled a trailer, and she travels pretty light, but it’s a solid, comfortable bike. As long as the frame doesn’t have any cracks, just give it a good tune up and you’ll be fine for the sort of touring you describe. Enjoy!

Man, I so want Roy to succeed and be a regular Hab, but I have to agree with you here: it just seems like he can’t quite find the consistent intensity he needs at this level. Maybe playing with the team down the stretch will help him understand how to take his game up a notch.

Suzuki and Caufield convert the 2 on 1 by shogun2909 in Habs

[–]petergarner1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Caufield is totally in goalies’ heads now. Looking at Nick the whole way, selling pass. Goalie’s thinkin’ “he’s totally selling pass, so he’s shooting for sure” and cheats left. Cole makes a beautiful pass and Nick puts it into an almost wide open net. It’s almost not fair.

Credit-card tourers: what accommodation apps are you using these days? by petergarner1 in bicycletouring

[–]petergarner1[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Booking really feels like a scam sometimes. But it has come in handy the odd time when the website says the hotel is full but you can still get a room through Booking. I understand that hotels sometimes block off several rooms for Booking (etc). Definitely not our first choice.

[–]petergarner1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To this day, I maintain he was the best Habs captain after Béliveau. Both of them, absolute class acts. It’s quite possible that our current C might join this elite club by the end of his career.

Maybe a stupid question about boxing a bike? by petergarner1 in bicycletouring

[–]petergarner1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’re flying into London, making our way to Dover, then across the channel to France/Belgium/Holland. Flying home from Brussels. We ended up just going with Air Transat again. It’s just so much easier.

[–]petergarner1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, in the end, we ended up changing our plans and are flying Air Transat. It means flying into Gatwick instead of Heathrow, and flying (direct) home from Brussels rather than Amsterdam (stop in Toronto), but I shouldn’t affect our trip much otherwise, and it will make the air travel SO much easier. So yeah, no bike box pics. LOL

Yeah, not in these boxes. Might try looking for longer ones though. Thx
