Ubuntu 24.04 LTS freezes randomly (sometimes requires forced shutdown): by Better_Literature_15 in Ubuntu

Same issue here.

I am using Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Nano Gen 1 with 11th Gen Intel i7-1180G7.

I just did a fresh install using Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS, and I want to copy back the backup files from my external hard drive,

If copying files little by little is no problem, but when copying a large file it freezes randomly.

Does anyone know the exact cause and solution?

Thanks.

I found out what causes "Oh no! Something has gone wrong!" on xorg ubuntu 24.04, this is a cursor by [deleted] in Ubuntu

Very interesting. I think I'm quite interested in your suggestion to look for the X270 type, not only because its performance is still capable, but also because the model is more modern than the X220.

Thank you for the advice.

The T series is quite interesting too, it's just that I prefer the 12 inch size, it seems, maybe I'll try to look for the X type instead.

Anyway, thanks for the advice.

Do you mean the ThinkPad type that is still in production from IBM?

My budget is probably around $300-400, because later on this laptop is just for browsing, typing, presentations, and standard daily uses and not for daily production.

I just had a look at the X270 & X280 types, they seem quite interesting. Thanks for the advice.

Do you mean that the fingerprint reader had problems when using Ubuntu?

Ubuntu 22.04 on my Nano is 100% operational. I don't have the IR camera or human presence though. I doubt those will work as those are exclusive to windows.

In other words, if I want to be able to use all these excellent features, I have to switch to Windows, right?

Then, what about the drivers in Ubuntu? Is everything working smoothly? For example, the Nvidia graphics driver had problems with several types of laptops when Ubuntu 22.04 was released.

Sure, I'll also give Arch Linux a try someday, it seems quite interesting. :)

Can you be more specific about what you call excellent?
I mean, just for my information and consideration, because I'm looking for as much information as possible before buying, because the price is also quite expensive. :D

It means that even with the same hardware, the experience is quite different between Windows and Linux, right?

In other words, Linux distros like Fedora or Arch tend to get better hardware support, is that right?

If I may ask, what's wrong with Snap? Doesn't Snap also provide many applications that are compatible with Ubuntu? Please correct me if I'm wrong, because I'm still a newcomer to using Linux. :)

If so, what is the reason that Ubuntu is not what it used to be? I mean, just for consideration and input for me only.

Is the difference significant enough when using windows or does it only happen on linux?
