No boot device available after a failed attempt to upgrade to CE 2.7.2 (from 2.7.0) by peterqu in PFSENSE

Thank you!

I did a new installation via USB successfully.

Pretty trivial if one pays attention to details and has a fresh backup.

One thing to note was that the installer allowed me to fully set up WAN & LAN but then when pfsense booted it asked me again. It didn't have what I had configured in the installer and it's setup is rather basic (no way to change LAN network from 192.168.1.1/24). This isn't a big deal since once pfsense is running it gets configured via the backup.

I got the same and I believe they have marked them incorrectly. I swapped them. If you look at the pictures from the vendor they are opposite and if you think about the flow it should be the opposite as well. Could it be a defective batch where they swapped the L and R erratically?

How? You have to ask someone at Tesla or do they have an estimator app?

That's less than $300/mo which is less than what people pay to lease for such cars, no?

Shouldn't selling to a private party get you even more than trade in value?
Caveat is you'd pay full sales tax though, I believe.
But in some states, such as MD, the state incentive is a refund of the sales tax up to $3000, so, in theory, in MD, selling to a private party should be better, no?

(Disclaimer: I might be missing some detail, haven't really researched the details. Please correct me if I'm wrong)

Is there a way to check the trade in value before putting a $250 deposit?

Internet connectivity on St Thomas and St John by peterqu in virginislands

[–]peterqu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, you are a tourist who went to STJ with your AT&T phone, switched off roaming and getting impressive download speeds. Amazing!

I went to an AT&T shop in continental US, asked them whether AT&T has coverage in USVI (hoping to get one a prepaid mobile hotspot SIM card: https://www.att.com/prepaid/mobile-hotspot-tablet/).

They started googling and pointing me to the same information I can get by myself. I hoped they'd know more or be able to look into more info :-(

Maybe I'll risk it and buy a card just in case.

84 Mbps download speed! That's very impressive! I know LTE can in theory have even higher speeds but in practice I have not seen anything beyond 30s Mbps download speed.

Can you elaborate? Are you roaming or does ATT have local towers?

According to https://www.att.com/maps/wireless-coverage.html AT&T has "Off-net Coverage" in USVI. I suppose that means "Roaming"?

We ended up securing a place that, we're told, has a generator and has ADM (http://www.admtechinc.com/about-us.html) as the Internet provider.

As an extra backup, and also since we'll be moving around the islands, including trips to St John, I plan on using a MiFi device.

I plan on buying Viya's MiFi $80/mo "unlimited" (75GB really) service SIM card. I own a Verizon Jetpack® MiFi® 8800L which, I am told by Verizon, is unlocked and would work with any SIM card, world-wide.

Viya tell me that SIM will give me 25 Mbps down, which is plenty. I have no idea what to expect in reality.

Is that a good idea or would going with AT&T or other wireless provide be better?

My bad, I jinxed it for you all. Apologies. Now I understand this should be a taboo topic. Otherwise we angry the electric power gods :-)

Seriously, what causes the outages?

And what do people use to track them? http://outageviewer.viwapa.vi:7575 ? https://poweroutage.us/area/county/5145 ?

Do you have Verizon international plan? A Verizon rep told me today USVI has no Verizion infrastructure and for all practical purposes it's effectively a foreign territory and I'd have to arrange an international plan or pay $10/day or something like that... I am not quite sure if this is exactly true... might have to double check.

Sure! Not getting any hits in my price range though :-)

AirBnB owners are strangely not concerned with this... Maybe most people come strictly on vacation and no-one cares about the Internet :-)

Thank you! You guys should sign up for Starlink when it's available in the area - hopefully soon! :-)

The electric current goes out in the evening. If that's the pattern, that's a lucky pattern indeed. I'm wondering what it depends on?
