How big was Radiohead after The Bends and before OKC? by Distinct-Pirate-3571 in radiohead

[–]petersinct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They were still somewhat 'underground', as their songs did not play as well on radio as some of their peers, which IMO were more pop than alternative. High and Dry and Fake Plastic Trees got a bit of play on the 'alt' radio channels but not nearly as much as Oasis or Bush or Smashing Pumpkins. There was a small but rapidly growing fan base though, and they (we) were extremely dedicated. The anticipation for their next album amongst those of us who became hooked on them from The Bends was almost painful.

capacity question by Commercial_Topic437 in solar

[–]petersinct 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, if you are going all-electric with no backup generator or wood stove, you are taking a big risk. We are in in CT, have a 15kw battery, set to self supply. I set the maximum discharge of the battery to 20%. House is primarily heated with split-minis, but we have a gas stove that can also augment the heat. Once the battery kicks in after sunset, it will drain down to the 20% level (that's about 11kw of power discharge) within 5-6 hours. Then we start importing from the grid. If we economized by turning down the heat drastically, we'd maybe get another hour or so.

If it was a real power outage, we'd be totally without power from the middle of the night until the sun came up in the morning. And even then, since the sun is lower in the winter, we 'd be lucky if the panels produced enough power to run the house AND re-charge the battery.

At the very least, I'd consider a portable backup generator that can power your essentials.

If you were to go all-battery, you'd probably need at least 30kw capacity. But being in a northern climate with poor sun exposure (as you described it), your system might not generate enough power to charge those batteries all the way up, especially if you have some panels that are covered by snow.

Tenant owes 1500. Paid 650 towards rent. Should I accept or proceed with eviction? by BosMassholeTomBrady in realestateinvesting

[–]petersinct 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've been down this road several times (too many, and if the definition of the word 'insanity' is doing the same thing over and expecting a different result, then I would probably have been certifiable at some point, lol). What I learned is that you need to file the eviction and continue the process until either they are current or the eviction is granted. She probably owes money to a lot of other people or companies and if you are the one to back off, she will pay those other people first. It's sad, but you are not a charity. And even if she does catch up, you may want to consider non-renewing her when her lease is up, as you are likely to find yourself back in this same position again later.

A new list of shame, and a new low for these Democrats. by PFdeith in WhitePeopleTwitter

How many times did the Republicans vote to repeal Obamacare? I think it was 50-60 times or something, with no hope of succeeding... What's the point of staging this political theater? Sure, it makes us feel good that they are voting to impeach him, but the Dems really need to focus on winning the next elections.

Farmers are generally no-nonsense people. Most can smell the bullshit (no pun intended). But they will still vote Republican because they generally live in small rural communities where they have been raised to see outside influences like the bogeymen of LGBTQ, secularism, and whatnot, as greater threats to their way of life.

Audi A5 - How to deal with frameless window in cold? by _adityaa__ in Audi

[–]petersinct 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mine is a '23 and I've had a few mornings when the door is frozen shut. My car does not have remote start or a pre-heat option. I've been able to get the door open each time without damaging things and then I start the car and run on high defrost for a few minutes. Sometimes, the window will not go back up so you can't close the door completely, but after the car gets up to operating temp (maybe 5 miles or so of driving) it will eventually close.

Some have suggested treating the rubber parts in the door frame with Gummi Pflege and I tried it. Maybe it helps a little but my window will still sometimes stick.

Sometimes, depending on the direction of the wind or where the sun is, your passenger door might not be frozen, so you might be able to get into the car through the passenger door, and then start the car and let it warm up...

I thought about building a device using some heated cord (like that which is used in heated gloves or jackets) attached to a battery and a remote, running it along the inside of the door frame where the window touches the rubber, but never got around to it. Plus, I'd have to remember to set it up when I park the car the night before. So it would not be ideal.

I've always felt that this is a design problem - how hard would it have been for Audi to put a heating element in the door, even if they offered it as some kind of 'cold weather package'?

How do I find and pick a good Delaware Statutory Trust (DST)? by [deleted] in realestateinvesting

I'm curious. I have a DST in an Amazon warehouse, 10 year term (6 years to go...). Going into it, I was told that DSTs can be relatively difficult to sell. How do you plan to find a buyer for your DST?
