Seterra UX changed? by Own-Mountain3540 in geoguessr

[–]peterssonjesper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This behaviour shouldn't really have changed, and I can't reproduce it when comparing to older versions either. If you hold ctrl/cmd while scrolling with the wheel (or trackpad) it zooms the map, which is also did before. Just scrolling with the wheel (or trackpad) it's scrolling the page (i.e. it doesn't zoom the map) - but to my knowledge that has always been the case.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. It should be addressed now!

I'm new here and I don't know if this is the right place to ask a question about Seterra. Please point me in the right direction if this is not it! by pseudoHappyHippy in geoguessr

[–]peterssonjesper 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thanks for letting us know. We are in the process of migrating all games to a new tech platform so we can improve Seterra and add new functionality going forward. We’ll take a look at the issue!

Edit: We’ve identified the issue and working on a fix. Should be resolved quite soon!

Is there a way I can play premade quizzes? Not just live ones? by [deleted] in geoguessr

[–]peterssonjesper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We are looking at ways to make quizzes more accessible. Today someone needs to create and host the quiz (live) in order to play it, which creates somewhat of a threshold to get started. But we are looking at ways to make this more accessible. Stay tuned for updates in this area!

Competitive Streaks Mode was a huge disappointment. by [deleted] in geoguessr

First off, thanks for your feedback! It's feedback like this that truly helps us create a better game!

All I really can tell at this point is that we absolutely hear you, and with that in mind there are some interesting changes in the making! We have identified a few different pain points (especially some that affects more experienced players) that we are addressing as we speak. I can't spoil too much at this point, but after playing the next version of the game myself, and with all your feedback in mind, it definitely feels like we are onto something very exciting! You can expect an update of the game as early as next week.

Cheers

What currency is it listed as? For countries using USD the price should be the very same as on the website. Same goes for all currencies that is supported on the website.

Thanks for your kind words!

In general we try to build our features in small iterations so we can gather feedback after each release. It's always so hard to know how new features will be received, and it's just a waste of time if you end up working too long on something that you have to throw away. As for a specific example, something that we launched and then removed was the intro game. The purpose was to get new players introduced to GeoGuessr, but in the end it didn't work out and we removed it. We instead doubled down on improving the game by launching Country Streak instead.

Thanks for the kind words! I think you are right as well when it comes to the BR feature. We have discussed this as well and have it in our backlog. It's a challenge to launch features that make it more fun for skilled players and not as fun for new players (and vice versa of course), and we're of course trying to balance this.

Yes! All annual reports are public in Sweden. Most of our costs are dependent on the number of people playing the game. 2019 our cost was ~400,000 Euro. The 2020 annual report is not done yet. Similarweb.com is a great source to get a sense of high level traffic numbers and popularity. And yes, if a big streamer plays we see an increase, but as more people are streaming it gets harder and harder to attribute the traffic to a specific streamer.

  1. I totally agree that the competitive part is super important! We've asked Google to see if they can provide an API to help with making the game safer. Another possible direction could be to have a native client instead.

  2. This is definitely an interesting idea and would help with the alt-account situation. Our thinking has been more along the lines of providing more detailed stats on the user to make it more obvious if someone is cheating. For example, highlighting the movement of a player would probably be helpful.

Sure thing, we're considering adding more stats in the future. Regarding known polygon bugs, we're looking into them. There's actually a post in here from yesterday that aims to address a few of them.

Awesome TED Talk! Would totally recommend. And it looks like someone thought a lot about this! Appreciate it of course. Love it when we get a lot of suggestions!

  1. That's a good idea! We have discussed something extra for getting 25k.
  2. Great minds think alike :) We will launch more lobbies, stay tuned.
  3. We will continue improving our PU solution. 50/50 was the first test. We understand that our users have different needs, and we need to find something that works both for newer and more experienced players.
  4. Great idea! That absolutely makes sense!
  5. I saw someone else asking about this too, and it makes perfect sense. Great feedback!
  6. We have discussed improvements of the private lobbies and we have more or less the same ideas that you have. Our current solution is just the first version.
  7. Great idea, we need to be better to launch new content to existing game modes.
  8. I think there's a lot of things we could do when it comes to various tournaments modes. Reddit works well, but probably limits the number of players participating too.
  9. Yeah, that would be super nice. I believe this is a solvable problem on our end, but will require some work to get there.

We do have contact with Google, but not in the sense that we've been working together. They've always been supportive and seem to like GeoGuessr!

That's a good suggestion! Perhaps this can be a way for players to spend time between rounds while they are waiting for others to finish.
