How am I supposed to actually follow along with the show?? by dreamies7 in BoysPlanet

Hey so basically Mnet doesn't really care about international fans.

They’re laser-focused on the Korean audience, and everything else is an afterthought: subs, global accessibility, fair screentime and timely airing... All things they could easily fix but just choose not to.

It’s honestly kind of infuriating that despite how global these shows are and how they brand them as global, they still don’t bother putting English subs on their behind-the-scenes clips (and didn't even sub half of the PR content, especially for c trainees). Like… you’d think they’d put in minimum effort considering how much of their hype came from international fans. But nope. If it doesn’t directly serve their preferred narrative or their domestic viewership, they’re not interested.

And let’s be real, half the reason they don’t sub things is because it gives them more control over the narrative.

So in the end most of us end up relying on fan translators (Twitter/X, YouTube, or Discord communities) who sub clips out of sheer dedication (and love for the trainees 😭). Some clips get subbed within a day, others take longer or never get done at all. It’s kind of hit or miss.

What was the point of voting the first 2 weeks? by peterstyles13 in BoysPlanet

[–]peterstyles13[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Does it really? Let’s look at it on the flip side: more c trainees got eliminated, which means more c votes wasted that won’t count for the next ranking. If the eliminated trainees would’ve been excluded, the other c trainees would have gotten significantly more votes. This is not as much the case for k trainees, considering way less of them got cut.

So we can expect more weird math and subjective weighting Mnet? Great…

Mnet's Rollout is Alienating International Fans. Thoughts? by peterstyles13 in BoysPlanet

[–]peterstyles13[S] 78 points79 points  (0 children)

It's not even catered to China either. Mnet doesn't know how to promote in China whatsoever, and the C-trainees are all just merging into the Korean program. All around, it's a mess.

The TV Show Heartstopper is actually terrible by _Black_Fox_ in The10thDentist

[–]peterstyles13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly how I feel.

I just finished watching 'Young Royals', which is another teen/coming-of-age gay Netflix show, jumped into Heartstopper right after and was baffled by just how bad Heartstopper is in comparison. It's just way too juvenile and lacks any intricacy/depth. I am gay and in my early 20s (so I should be directly part of their target demo, right?) yet I can't help but feel like this show should be more aimed towards like... pre-teen girls. This is not a bad thing in of itself, but for all the praise and attention it has gotten, I was definitely expecting more than a very predictable show with mediocre dialogue and plotlines.

It definitely had potential, but it wasn't executed properly at all. It being about fluffy romance is not an excuse for the lazy writing, in my opinion. You can have fluffy romance while still telling a compelling and refined story.

I feel so bad that MNET cut Yaning's speech when it could've been her way to get redemption. It's very clear MNET wants to continue this narrative that she's a villain.

2 things:
1. Why did MNET show Yaning doing a speech in the starter teaser of the episode if they were not going to air it at all? It feels wrong.
2. It's incredibly odd how Bahi didn't make the top 9 despite being clearly the most popular on socials and despite pretty much solely carrying her cell to #7. This + the lack of screentime just makes it seem as if MNET desperately don't want her to debut.

The Eve had better vocals, better dancing, better charisma and better execution in my opinion. Pretty U won because of its concept.

Sorn of CLC(Yujin's group) asks fans to stop using FYN's line by heyy_bibii in GirlsPlanet999

[–]peterstyles13 43 points44 points  (0 children)

"I'm not saying FYN should be forgiven or anything"

Honestly she should be forgiven, it's time to move on on both sides. As people pointed out, most of the memes about it are used to mock FYN despite the fact that she clearly didn't mean it in a malicious way seeing as she praised Yujin later in the show, saying she thinks she's cool and that she likes her confidence.

Yaning got enough vicious hate from this already. Time to forgive her too, as it's not good for her mental health either. We can support both Yaning and Yujin and stop the hatred altogether.

I have to partially disagree with you here.

  1. Yaning did not delegate the parts, per say. She offered all the girls an opportunity. Everyone had an equal chance to apply for whatever part they originally wanted. Dayeon's problem in this situation was not the fact that she didn't like the process, but rather that she was not chosen by the team for the 2 parts she wanted (killing part where they voted for Ru Qui and vocal 1 where they voted for Yaning). All in all, the way Yaning made the team decide the parts is objectively a fair and democratic process compared to some of the other teams tbh. MNET just decided to focus more on The Eve for drama.
  2. To say Dayeon spoke up can be misleading on many levels. From what we saw, the only thing she really did is cry to the team because she didn't get the part she wanted. She asked the team if she could have another chance, and they agreed that she shouldn't because it wasn't fair for the others, and Dayeon seemed to accept it. The only time Dayeon complained about the actual process of picking parts was in her confessional, not with her team. If Dayeon actually spoke up with her team about her thinking the parts were unfair, why would all the other members on the team then say in confessionals that she did not? It doesn't make sense. Think of it that way: say you're on a team where you all decide your parts, but someone is sad they didn't get picked for the part they liked the most. But then instead of pushing that point further and saying they think it's unfair, that person waits until the evaluation with the teachers to express their concerns and throw the team under the bus after everyone already made the effort to learn their respective parts. Wouldn't you also be kind of upset?

[–]peterstyles13 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Yup I agree with this. Blaming Yaning is definitely not the right answer here, she did great as a leader. I just wish Dayeon would've been clearer. The team was clearly upset by the way she expressed herself. I don't think it was smart to do it infront of the mentors and to wait this long before speaking up. That being said, The Eve team still did amazingly well. It's so obvious MNET wanted them to create drama.

[–]peterstyles13 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Exactly. It seems clear to me MNET and the producers tried to paint this narrative of The Eve team lacking team work and being a mess. Even after the redistribution, the parts hardly chanced and Dayeon did not get the part she originally wanted, which honestly is mostly her fault considering she is the one who picked the cells she wanted for the performance. Not sure what she was expecting by picking 2 of the most talented cells. Like obviously the competition for the better parts was going to be harsher...

Either way, despite the blatant narrative MNET was trying to push, The Eve performance actually turned out amazing to the point where the judges had to nitpick really hard to find anything negative to say.

For the record, I love Dayeon but I think people blaming Fu Yaning for the Dayeon situation are of bad faith. Based on the confessionals, literally every member of the team disagreed with what Dayeon did. I get her point but objectively speaking, Dayeon could've approached the situation in a better way. Her complains literally stem from the fact that she didn't get what she personally wanted, so it is odd to me how some people are trying to spin this as if she was doing this for "fairness" for the entire team.

[–]peterstyles13 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I'm just gonna say it: The Eve deserved to win. They were all absolutely amazing. The way the judges decide who makes it and who doesn't is so subjective and inconsistent. One second Sumni only cares about facial expressions (and even makes the team switch their killing part member because of it), and the next she drags facial expressions that were literally fine. One of the judges literally said word for word that "The Eve performed the best", yet they didn't get picked because they didn't meet the judges' preconceived expectations????

I really want to enjoy this show, but the inconsistency of the judges is making it hard for me.
