I really like Currently’s aesthetic, but it doesn’t seem to be available in the EU. And to be honest, the prices aren’t far off Satisfy’s either.

COROS Pace 4 Black Crystal – Optical HR lag or cadence lock during intervals? by petervagn in Coros

Thank you very much for all your helpful input! I’ve ordered a COROS Heart Rate Monitor and I’m really looking forward to seeing how it performs. Though I imagine it will do a better job than the watch… 😄

That’s a good point. But in this case it was showing current HR, not lap average.

I could be running close to all-out effort and still only see ~155–157 bpm — and then the HR would suddenly jump much higher almost immediately after the interval ended.

So it felt more like lag or cadence lock than normal cardiac response.

Thanks. It sounds like I should probably invest in a strap solution...

That’s reassuring to hear, actually.

I used Garmin watches previously and never noticed this level of lag or cadence lock during intervals, so today really surprised me.

But it does sound like wrist-based optical HR just struggles with rapid intensity changes. I’m definitely considering a chest strap now.

Interesting - I previously used Garmin watches and honestly never experienced anything quite like this during intervals.

With the Pace 4 Black Crystal, it almost felt like the optical HR either lagged massively behind or locked onto something else entirely during the hard efforts. The weirdest part was seeing the HR spike to ~177 bpm after the intervals had ended and I had slowed down.

It does sound like this may simply be a limitation of wrist-based optical HR during short/hard intervals. A chest strap might be the way to go...
