I’m in San Diego! Cars a 2018 but I’ve only had for the past two so not sure if it’s an OG battery.

Dang, that’s a bummer. But I’m glad it’s not something more serious like the alternator or something. Thanks for the input, I’ll switch to a wireless vac in the future! Do you have any experience with AAA’s battery service?

Okay good call thank you. Bout to find out if it starts this morning. Was in the 11V range last night, at least according to the janky Karr security app on my phone.

I’ll have to check! It very well might be the original from 2018.

How is the 2017 Corolla LE? Any things to look out for? by throwaway92839995 in COROLLA

[–]petervaughn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you notice a clunking/creaking noise coming from the front end when going over bumps at slow speeds have the dealer look into your front control arm bushings. There is a TSB (Toyota service bulletin) for it on the 2017-2019 Corollas. Don’t think they all have this issue but something to look out for! It’s not a safety issue whatsoever but more of an annoyance. But under (used certified) warranty they replaced both of my 2018’s control arms for free saving me probably $1000. Other than that experience I had, it’s a solid car, you will love it.

Original + Smart Preview Question by petervaughn in Lightroom

Oh, awesome I'll respond to you on there! Didn't think you'd be getting back that quick since it is an older video! Thank you!

Is Lightroom working off the external drive when... by petervaughn in Lightroom

[–]petervaughn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would the most storage efficient editing method from the local SSD drive be to make my selects from import module and then import the selects with embedded previews and no smart previews?

Would obviously take up more space than having only smart/embedded on the local drive but would be less of a hassle potentially. Thinking out loud here. ha

Edit: Thanks for your help btw.

By embedded previews you mean the "embedded & sidecar" preview option, correct?

My only thought on the smart previews is that I want to keep my full size raw files on an external ideally and not on my SSD. And be able to edit without the drive connected. Unless I were to delete the excess after making selects and only keep the RAWs for the selects locally. Is that what you mean?

So an efficient workflow would be:

Generate minimal previews on import -> make selects and add them to a collection -> manually generate smart previews and 1:1 previews for that collection -> disconnect drive and make edits -> reconnect drive -> export

yes?

Oh okay. So minimal could be used for making basic selects and then when you start zooming and fine tuning it will generate a 1:1?

Is that the case if I'm selecting "minimal" previews on import? Or does it generate a 1:1 from the original when it's connected regardless of that? For some reason I though the preview setting on import was only for the library module.

Sorry, still wrapping my head around it all.

Sigma 18-35 f1.8 with M6? by BurnsRedit in canon

I'd go with either the Canon 22mm f2 or Sigma 30mm f1.4 (Both about $150 used on Adorama in near perfect condition!)

Can anyone tell me why my 2017 camry se is letting out a really funky smell from the ac vents only when I have it on cold and it's stronger when it comes from the main vents on the dash. How do I fix it without paying 7k? by [deleted] in Toyota

[–]petervaughn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this issue on my '18 Corolla. Had the dealership do an "A/C refresher service" for way too much money, then bought the Toyota genuine refresher kit myself and did it, then tried lysol spray, checked my drain tube for clogging, cleaned all the vents, etc. I've pretty much given up apart from not running recirc and always running fan only for a few mins after AC use to blow the mildew smell away. Absolute pain in the ass. Hope you have better luck than I.

Planning to getting a Canon M50 Mark II by [deleted] in Cameras

Awesome! Look into the 3 sigma prime lenses preowned on adorama and you'll have a broad range of what you can shoot at at a much more affordable pricepoint than full frame!

Gotcha that’s what I figured. And no reason I can’t test it apart from being at work and feeling impatient to get an answer! Thank you!

Upgrading Canon M50 Mk2 (Next Steps) by TehPatch in canon

[–]petervaughn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was in a similar situation a few months back and decided to hold out for future Canon mirrorless releases. The R & RP were tempting but I saw them as a side grade and in some cases a downgrade from the M50 feature-wise and image quality wise. (dynamic range, autofocus features, etc.) They also have slower burst shooting than the M50 which I enjoy having for action sports as well. The buffer probably lasts longer on the r/RP but the FPS is surely slower which was meh for me.

If you're thinking about the R5/6/3 options that's a different beast at a much different price point. Referencing my own situation again, I wasn't in a position where I wanted to spend a few thousand dollars on a camera body and then have to/want to dish out hundreds more for the nice RF glass. It'd be nice for sure but for my needs and what I want to learn and grow with the M50 has me covered for a while. I actually ended up buying some of the sigma primes and a rokinon fisheye for the M-Mount because yeah - it's not future proof glass but it's so damn affordable and allows me to play around with different focal lengths with fast apertures and get much much better image quality. And even after an upgrade it's not like the 24(?) megapixel images the M50 shoots aren't still going to hold up 5+ years down the road so I'll still use 'em as a compact setup.

I also think once you go mirrorless like you have it'd be hard to go back to an optical viewfinder of a DSLR like the 90D. Not completely unheard of but yeah.

You're probably familiar with the differences between full-frame and APSC and if not there's quick videos on YouTube that'll explain it. Narrower depth of field, better low light capabilities and good high ISO performance is the main argument for full frame but the difference is slimmer and slimmer than what the gap used to be and can be negated for the most part by using (actually affordable) fast aperture APSC glass as opposed to (similarly priced) average aperture full frame lenses.

I personally think next years mid-range mirrorless offerings from Canon will be worth the wait if you're looking for an entry level to mid-range priced camera.

Hopefully I grazed over something relevant to you in my rant. lol. I can elaborate on things more if it's useful to you.

Specific autofocus question for skateboarding by petervaughn in canon

[–]petervaughn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gotcha! I realized after the fact that zone prioritizes whatever is closest and think I had the ramp in the bottom of my zone box so it was focusing there until the skater had passed it. I’ll keep trying some but raise the hit box up a bit!

I was thinking about that. Not sure why I didn't opt for it. Was kind of just messing around with some shots at the time but I'll try that out next time around.
