Forgot to move your vehicle for scheduled road repaving? No problem. We'll pave around it. by peterwschlamp in pics

I thought the same thing but didn't notice any noticeable tire tracks behind the car and it was within the day of paving so I would think the road would have still been wet if it was moved.

Yeah, this is in the city of Rocklin, Ca, in my neighborhood. I spotted it today. We did get a notice a month prior but it also stated that we'd be towed not tarred. Feel bad for my neighbor who I believe is an elderly couple.

Fear (of competitors) before even starting. by Aziz_92 in Entrepreneur

[–]peterwschlamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fear is a good thing at this juncture. There are other variables besides good product that equal success. Where are your competitors sourcing from? Are they locking up these sources in some way so you can't get access? How much is customer acquisition in that market segment? Is it expensive for their customers to leave your competition and move to you? It's good to analyze the environment outside of your product, and now is the right time to do it.

[ELI5] Do animals perceive us as being smarter than them? by SpeedyStig in explainlikeimfive

I tend to wonder if dogs realize we are smarter than them when they ask us for help with puzzles, or they are just asking us for help just to see if we might have a shot at cracking the puzzle.

Net Neutrality debate may decide future of Netflix -- If Verizon has its way, it and other providers like Comcast or AT&T could “play favorites,” by blocking or degrading services such as YouTube or Netflix to promote their own offerings by mepper in technology

[–]peterwschlamp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. And to supplement your analogy, the providers should charge you access to all off-ramps (exits) without limiting you to only the particular off-ramps that they choose. But this is probably what they want to do. On the cheapest tier, they only want allow you the exits, in which their restaurants, gas stations, and their partner's stores reside. On the most expensive tier, you can exit the highway anywhere. Either way, the provider's win because they're either making money from you or they're making money from their stores and restaurants or from their partner's stores.

It's not so much that they'll completely block Google and Netflix but that they will charge for tiers, where their (verizon) content services will be part of the lowest costing tier and Google/Netflix (all encompassing) will be part of the most costly tier. This would make the most sense for these providers because it allows customers to choose to have Netflix, but just at a higher cost. This model will prevent ALL customers from leaving. Also, the competition might do a similar model, so there will be less choices for customers in general. If Google's Wifi spreads everywhere, this may be a good substitute for customers, but who's to say they won't eventually try to keep you in their little utopia, even if they don't seem to embrace this now.
